I just shot a couple good rounds where i consistently broke 80. Now my ball striking is terrible. First of all I swing way from the inside. And lately I've been hitting alot of shots off the toe. So I'm hitting like a block slice. Any tips?

I just started golfing, but I've been playing baseball for quite a number of years and this situation sounds really firmiliar. Two seasons ago I was batting .531 with 9 hrs, and I won player of the year. Last season I batted in the low to mid 200's, with two home runs. Every time I came up to the plate I tried something new, and failed. It would eat away at me day and night. After the first half of the season was done my coach handed me a book called The Mental Game of Baseball. Now my BA is well into the 300's and I have 6 hr's with like 19 games left. It talked about just letting go, and letting your hours of preparation kick in. The cliff notes from this story are, just let your ability come through. You practice for a reason. Good luck.

Haha I hope your right. Tommorrow I'm spending some quality time at the range. I know it's mental. Baseball is very different than golf though. Your slump might have been because you were facing good pitching.

Be careful that you're not over-changing your swing to make up for what could be a very simple fix. If you were hitting the ball that well, the mishits could simply be aligning a hair too far from the ball, or your posture being slightly too straight. Your "block slice" could now be a result of your trying to correct for those faults.

As far as your scoring, make sure you play with whatever swing you have that day. Trying to fix stuff mid-round usually leads to bad scores, and - if you're using score to judge your swing progress - can just send you farther down. Don't confuse "swing" and "score," and stick to a good course management game no matter what swing you have.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

    • #1. I rather lower my score by 3 instead of making an eagle... but a hole in one is a hole in one and I'm still didn't make one.
    • I'm available all of those weekends.   How do I vote?
    • Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.
    • OK - I think we should narrow down a weekend, and start there.  We're going to try to do this in June. I've created a Doodle poll where everyone can vote for the options that work for them.  Please include your username so I can track/post results. Doodle Doodle is the simplest way to schedule meetings with clients, colleagues, or friends. Find the best time for one-to-ones and team meetings with our user-friendly calendar tool. Get started today! (I only put in the Saturday dates, but assume the outing would include Friday - Sunday). Once we select a date that works for the most people, I'll start to line up courses and schedule and go from there.
