I am looking to buy a set of used Ping Eye2 irons for 220 and am wondering if thats a good deal. I am new to the game and I am looking for game -improvement irons that I can grow with. I am finding all kinds of variable prices on these irons and I can't find a medium price range in all my research. I also was wondering if anyone has played with these irons before because all i'm getting are the typical 5/5 ratings that everyone gives out.

I am looking for honest feedback. Thanks for all your help in advance guys.

I played copper eye 2's in high school. Great clubs and would def. recommend them. $220 is not bad. There is a guy here locally that wanted to sell his for $165 but I didnt see them up close. I was going to buy them just to buy them since they are an iconic club and I want to start to collect stuff for my bar in my next house. I would rate them 4.5/5

I assume you are looking on Ebay, and it depends on what you are getting for $220? 3-pw? 5-pw? 2-sw? Determine price per club, and figure out the best deal. You should be able to find a set of 8 irons for around $200, in my experience. I played ping eye2+'s for 15 yrs. They are a phenomenal club, and great to grow with. There are pro's who played these for years and Mark Calcavechia still plays their wegdes. Make sure you get the right color dot = lie angle. Look them up on their website if you need to know.

In the Titleist bag on the ClicGear 2.0:

PILOT: Titleist 910 D2 Axivore Tour Red

3 WOOD: Callaway 3-Deep 13*

Hybrid: TaylorMade RBZ 22*

IRONS 3-PW: Mizuno MP-32

WEDGES: Vokey TVD 54* SM5 58*K

PUTTER: Rife 2-Bar Blade

BALL: Penta 5

I'd be getting 2-pw and they have pretty good grooves in them as far as I can tell.

Yeah Ping has all their vintage stats online. The set I had, which ever they were, had a 50 degree pitching wedge....those were the days. No need for a gap wedge. They hold their value quite well, and you should get what you give if you ever get rid of them. Last I saw Tim Herron was still playing those irons....endorsed by a man called Lumpy. I liked mine but those particular shafts were way too stiff for me.

Played these until few months ago. They are nice but they are known to send the ball real high. I'd say you should go with something else that's newer model used.

The Ping Eye 2 Becu with square grooves were my first set of golf clubs that my wife bought me that I still own. I like them but would recommend the Mizuno Comp Ez over the Ping Eye 2. The Mizuno's feel better and are over size heads and I personally feel perform better than the Pings.

The Mizuno are forged irons and have a soft feel, you can buy a used set on ebay for under $225. I actually saw a set of Mizuno mx 23 with Nippon 850gh shafts that sold for $135 plus shipping that was even a better deal on ebay just recently.

Ping Eye2 irons are most sold irons in the history of golf.
I know people who are playing them 20 years ago.
So, they are not bad...
Be sure the shaft and the lie angle are suitable for you, and get them.
They´re classy, good quality and easy irons.

I used them. THey were great clubs. If I was looking to spend that kind of money though, I would be looking more at something from the last year or two. Just a personal opinion that technology has advanced so much into more forgiving clubs.

I have a lightly used set 3-PW for 200, PM me if you're interested. I was actually debating on just getting them re-gripped and using them again.

I would second that. The Eye 2s were iconic clubs - I used to borrow a friend's set once in a while, just for the thrill of hitting Pings (we're talking mid 80s) Fantastic off-set on the long irons made them a breeze to hit. However, they're VERY old and technology has move on so much since then.

I would suggest going to your local pro shop or good golf store and hit a few from the 2nd hand section. You'll find something more up to date for probably the same money. //Anand

I am having the same problem I have isi-k ping irons had them since 99 starting to get serious with my golf again. I am considering getting either the new G-5 or G-10 irons. I have not hit either but the heads look a lot smaller than my isi-k. Its a confidence thing. anyone had isi-k and either the G-5 or G-10.Are the new irons that much better.I know I need to hit the new irons I was just wanting some input.

I dont know if BETTER is the right word, as the right word for me would be different. I just hit the G10's this morning at my local shop. I think tech has come a long way in 10 years.

Personally I have not seen that much advancement in irons since I started playing (1994). Obviously, the tech has changed night and day with the ball and driver, but I havent noticed much change in the irons. I have never played "super game improvement" irons but I played eye2's my freshman year in highschool and played Callaway x-12's sophmore until the end of high school. Everytime I pick up a new Callaway now they look like the x-12's I had back in 98-99. I think going with what your confident in is the only way to go. I knew a 25 handicapper that played better golf with 1980 Wilson blades than he did when he dropped over $1500 for top of the line Callaways.

I think the Eye2 is a great club and is still on par with what is out there now.

I have started leaning more toward the g2 irons than the eye irons. A buddy of mine uses g2s and they hit very well. I am looking to pick up a set for around 220 shipped as well so I am thinking I will go with the newer clubs.

IMHO that is a very good idea. Good luck.

I think the G2s topped the Hotlist in 2005 and would probably be your best bet if you are really into Ping. I dug the Callaway X12s too, although they are about 6 or 7 years older than the G2s. I think they were a great blend of looks versus forgiveness. I doubt there is much difference in the X12s and X20s after 10 years of evolution. Whenever I hit a fat shot with my players irons, I lament my X12 years.

I play Eye2's.

I bought them on ebay about 14 months ago for ~300. I did a lot of research and was very picky before I finally bought the set that I did. I got a set with matching serial numbers, 3-lw, in the correct color code for me. The LW is worth $40-70 alone, so finding a set with matching serials that includes the lw is not that easy.

The reason I chose the Eye2's was so that I could get my money back if I did not enjoy the game. I could not find another set of clubs that were perfect for a beginner that would not drop value like a rock.

I could not be more happy with these clubs. They have been forgiving and consistent. I can hit high shots, low shots, work the ball both ways. I decided not to use the SW and LW, the grooves were quite worn and I did not want to put any more wear on them. I bought a couple of Vokey wedges to take their place.

The lofts on these old irons is much weaker than today's clubs, sometimes by a full club. If you have a problem hitting 6 iron when your buddies are hitting 7...you might want to look for something else.

    • Hi all. I've joined as a TST sponsor and while I don't intend to bombard your forums with product plugs ad nauseum, I wanted to put a bit of philosophy behind how I've trod this path. Although I've only been playing golf since COVID, I've realised there are minute changes in golf setups that impact performance like no other sport I have played/contested in my life. Recently I made a super small change to my grip (using a trigger index finger on my trail hand) that has improved my ball striking dramatically. It blows my mind. I love being so involved in something that my spare moments are spent analysing how I played and how I can improve. (I recently looked at my stats and my worst pickup holes are Par 5s - I actually play the lowest index holes better than the rest - what he heck?? Mental game after bad shots and concentration needs work there methinks) And when the small changes matter so much, we need to ensure there is a strategic approach to improvement. Incremental change is critical. Don't deviate from what is known without understanding that any change affects another. This is where the concept for my training aids was born. Something Erik shared a long time ago - The Virtue of being a Stupid Monkey - stole way too much of my spare time this week pondering. Do I want to know WHAT to do, or do I want to know WHY to do it? It is indeed the what. I've always been a "Try it, and if it works, keep doing until something better springs to mind." A sore back or knee will ruin your round. Do you want to to know how to play around it, or do you need to understand why it's happening? I'll go into more detail on this soon. In the meantime, here's a video that wraps up the basics of SwingMate, the flagship product. Thanks for having me!
    • Possibly, deffo trying to weaken my right hand somewhat. Left hand I believe is fine as I'm mostly fingers there with grip under the fat pad. But my lesson tomorrow will hopefully shed some light
