How do you care for your golf shoes?

I was just wondering how some of you care for your golf shoes? Do you use regular shoe polish or some type of specialty care product? I have a pair of FootJoy saddle shoes with white and black leather uppers and want to put a nice cleaning on them, as well as help to prolong their life. Any and all advice is welcome.

I use Kiwi cleaning gel and then polish with a quality shoe cream. I'm a big fan of the kind in the tube with the built in foam applicator. I can't recall the brand name, but I found it in the men's dress shoe section of Nordstrom. (It looks sort of like the one in the picture below, but a different brand.) It's a little more expensive than the jar cream, but way more convenient.

If you can't find the appropriate color (I haven't been able to find white), then FootJoy shoe cream in the short jar is good.

I also use cedar shoe trees.

I keep my shoes in a cedar shoe tree before and after a round of golf. The tree help absorb any moisture and helps keep the form of the shoe.

I am trying to get my son to do the same for his basketball shoes.

In the trunk with my clubs but definitely cedar shoe trees and wipe them off real quick after every round,

I use plastic shoe trees because I won't spend the money on cedar.
I think I'll ask Santa for those.

For white/dark saddles, I get great results with Fantastic to clean them and Stride-Rite white shoe dye.

Seriously, I've tried about everything.
That baby shoe dye makes them as white as your dress shirts.

That shoe dye is fantastic. Keep in mind that fantastic will dry out the leather if not treated afterward.

I like to use saddle soap to clean them, then mink oil to protect them and keep the leather treated and soft. Cedar shoe inserts are a must if you want to keep your shoes around. If you take care of them, I've had shoes last upwards of 4+ years!!! and I play EVERY day!

Take 'em off and put 'em in the trunk. I'll wipe 'em off with a damp towel every other round unless they're really dirty. After the season, I buy a new pair. They're just shoes so I don't treat them like they're Renoir sketches.

Some shoes cost me a heck of a lot of money, I want them to last longer than a year when your paying upwards of $200 per pair.

Ditto. I've only found 1 model from 1 brand that fit my weird feet. And Eccos aren't cheap. I want them to last.

I agree! My FootJoys cost $160 and I think that I should get more than a season of wear out of them. I plan to keep them around as long as possible, hence the reason to start this thread.

Thanks for the great advice, ALL!

you can go to any athletic shoe store and buy their shoe foam. if you need specifics, go to finish line and get a can of their's (i think made by kiwi) for $4.99. just spray it on, let the foam break up the dirt and just wipe it off. very simple, and it's safe for most shoes.

Kiwi cleaner is quite good. Please make sure that the people with nice shoes, put some protectant on them. YOu will not believe how much easier they become to clean each time after applying some.

    • I dont know if I really have a favorite, but there are two that have stuck in my mind for a very long time. #15 at Erie Golf course during the Finals of the EDGA Matchplay. Was up early and then lost a few holes in row so the match was close again. My opponent had a short putt for birdie. I hit past hole high, but 35 feet right. I drained the putt and looked over at my opponent who was in disbelief.   #8 at Whispering Woods during another year of the EDGA Matchplay. Was playing a very cocky opponent who made sure to mention on the first tee how many times he won the club championship at this course. I hammered this 30 footer that clanked off of the pin and dropped. My opponent was disgusted and that made me weirdly happy. I went on to win 5&3 or something like that, so that entire day has stayed in my memory.
    • Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
    • Day 296: did a stack session.
