did u know back then when they had hickory stick shafts, all shafts were the same length. therefore having to be customized and personalized made it an expensive sport.

then the steel shaft came out that was very very very cheap to make and produce.
since it would be expensive to customize, they just took a set of irons, and cut it 1/2 an inch as you go down the irons, making it playable for everyone. one set of clubs that caters to all. that is why we have different length irons now.

I said 7 iron because whenever I go practice I end up hitting a LOT of 7 irons - always have. I usually take a long iron, a short iron, a PW and a SW with me when I am practicing and I work my way through all of them but if I am working on something I'll stand there and hit 7 iron most of the time.

7 irons, I can hit anything with in 155 with my 7. Probably because I hit it so much at the range.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread. I actually voted 9 though. I practice it the most and I'm just really comfortable with it. The 7 was my past favorite but I've been having problems pulling it slightly left lately.

I love being able to pull my 60 out though. Make a full swing and just watch it come down and sit right beside the pin.

    • Day 21 - 2026-01-10 More mirror work focused on hip.
    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
    • Day 150 1-10 focus on arching the wrist and getting the ball to go left. Recorded, hit foam balls.
    • Day 467 - 2026-01-10 Practiced at Pinehurst every day I was there, and before Junior Elite this morning I got fifteen minutes of backswing checks in the mirror in.
