A few hours ago, I test drove my new driver. Here is my review.

First - I bought a 9.5* to hopefully lower my ball flight, along with a stiff shaft (my swing speed suggests regular) to help with control. Turns out, I now have the low, penetrating ball flight I've always wanted, with the accuracy everyone desires.

Pros:
First off, lets get this out of the way. If you can't take a loud noise at impact, do not buy this club. Honestly, I love the sound and it is definitely an attention-getter at the range. It really makes you feel you crushed it.

Second, it is EXTREMELY forgiving. I've bought a draw-biased club to try to help 'fix' my slice problems and it didn't help. I bought this driver, made a minor swing change, and am consistently hitting it right down the center, and can draw and fade if needed. Off center shot? Lose a little yardage, but still right down the middle. This club is a lot easier to shape than people give it credit for.

Also, the creative shading on the club makes you feel as if you were hitting a more traditionally-shaped club.

Cons:
If you top the ball, you somewhat won't notice except for the ball flight. (10 yards and a dive down) I don't like that it makes the same noise when you top it as when you crush one down the middle.

This driver takes a little distance off of my drives. Although, I'll trade accuracy for distance any day of the week.

Headcover sucks. Very weirdly shaped and somewhat hard to get on.

Bottom Line:

Very forgiving driver that's very easy to use. Off-center shots still go almost as far, and just as straight. Although it is forgiving, I was able to shape my shots pretty well, and I wasn't able to with previous drivers. It is loud, but I LOVE the noise. I won't be getting a new driver anytime soon, that's for sure. I highly recommend for mid-high handicappers that have trouble driving consistently and accurately. Low handicappers that bomb the ball do not need this driver, as it takes off a little distance.

Ask questions if you want...

I like the results of this club, but I can't take the sound or the look of it. If it was quieter I would consider putting it in my bag.

Just a quick question, have you tried the Sasquatch that is not square? I am looking for a new driver and this is on my short list but the square shape has put me off. I don;t mind the noise, but I am still wary of the square shape for some reason.

I tried a couple of cheaper square drivers (Nickent and Hippo) last year and did not like either...

I have played with a few guys this year that have the "round" Sumo and they hit it long and strait...

I am looking for accuracy, distance is not an issue, so if the square really makes that much difference I will give it a go, just wondering if it realy is that much more accurate than the round one?

Thanks!

P.S. nice review....

I too like the cool sound of them! I just couldn't bond with their stock shafts. I tried a used one with a different shaft and hit it great, but my ball flight was just too high. I'm sure I'll come across a used one with different shaft and snag it.
Have fun!

Question: Can i have it?

I'm sorry, but I think I'm going to have to say no.

Unfortunately, I have not tried the round SQ. But, don't be afraid of a square head! With the shading on it, it makes it look round anyways.

The square one is MUCH more accurate, just from reviews - the square one is supposed to hit it straight, and straight only (however, I was actually able to work the ball), and the round one is more of a driver that allows you to work the ball more easily and in turn leaves less accurate drives on a consistent basis.

Cool thanks, maybe I should just close my eyes when I swing!

At the beginning of the year I bought the 2007 model Sumo Sasquatch 10.5
Reg flex driver . Im starting to think that maybe I need a stiff shaft as well. It seems that no matter what I change whether it be my stance, grip, or swing Im constantly hitting a fade. I fairly new to the game so when I wanted to upgrade my driver a couple people recomended this one so I bought it. I never did have my swing analyzed or anything nor do I now my swing speed. I guess Ill have to start there and see what they say.

Isn't a fade attributed to using a shaft that's too stiff already? I thought a hook was if the shaft is too soft for your SS.

It's most likely not the shaft, it's probably your swing. The stiff flex helps you hit more accurately, and in return you lose distance(if your fitted for R flex)...BUT, it's always your swing if you're hitting a fade/slice.

Ok. I would rather it be my swing than the club. I just hope that I can correct it fairly easliy because its been frustrating. Ill have to get my swing analyzed somewhere to see what Im doing wrong. It seems like everyone I golf with have different opinions of whats wrong and when I adjust my swing, stance, etc it either doesnt help or makes it worse. Well at least I know its more than likely my swing. Thanks alot guys.

i experienced the same things when i demoed this driver but 10 to 15 yards is to much of a distance loss for me to take if i allready drive the ball straight, so i ended up going with the tm burner, but for all you guys who hit less than 5 farways a round and hit the ball a pretty long way this is a great club.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
