very cool! there were some kids on golf team that i'd see playing in the summer and they would say "oh, 39, i sucked today" and then not break 50 on the par 3 nine hole course all year. congrats

just make sure that you count all your strokes. nobody likes a cheater

I never said you could not do this but if you did you better hope it just wasnt a fluke because a lot of people on here including me has put a lot of time in to this game and you can see my handicap, and I can normal always beat people that I regularly play with,so thats all I am saying. And you dont know how many times that I hear (man I am having a bad day)when you are ahead by a few strokes, if you know what I mean.

I've been playing for a little over a year, and I don't think I've played 20 rounds yet (maybe one round a month). I do practice a lot though. [/end brag]

As for the original poster, good job! As for the doubters, it's very doable! Golf doesn't require a lot of hand eye coordination.. in fact, a man or woman with average coordination can learn to consistently break 80 in 6 months of play if he or she applies himself or herself intelligently and patiently.

Man, I felt pretty good before. A year ago I was a 38 handicap. I thought I was progressing pretty well, but now I am ashamed.

I played again the next day, sorry I was down in Virginia and I just got back. I shot a 42 and on the last hole I double bogeyed. I count all strokes and I play it even if I miss hit on my drive... it only gets you better. My avg. score on 9 holes is like a 43. Just that one day everything went well and I shot my lowest.

good job dude. that's kind of awesome to regularly shoot what you are after a few months. I thought I was doing well at a 9.4 after a year and a half.

btw, the + in your handicap means that you're shooting under par. A tour pro is around +3.5 or so. Also, how did you have your handicap calculated so quickly? are you using a program? When I started, it required 20 rounds for me to put in and have an accurate hc.

again that's pretty damn dope.

I did some program online and I did 11 rounds of golf with the slope rating and everything... I just put a plus cause I thought it said you had to. I have no clue how to do handicap or even understand it.

HAHAHAHA - NO WAY that the average person consistently breaks 80 after just 6 months - you gotta be some kind of extremly athletic, talented and hardworking person to come even close. And btw. you wont be able to practice all the time for 8hours a day - you will have minor injuries that force you to take a break, you need to rest to ease the muscle tensions that built up over the time. I would say you probably get to practice/play 80 % of the time and are forced to take the rest of the time off. And espically beginners are much more likely to hurt them selfs.

Just look at the handicap distribution of all golfers and you will realize whats going on...

If this were so, then why does the "average" golfer not break 100 on a regular basis? The avg golf score is 100.

I've spoken to ppl that have dedicated themselves practicing 4 times a week and getting out 2 - 3 times and still can't break 90.

You don't need to believe it. I believe it because I did it. It is my believe that you don't need to be extremely talented or extremely athletic. Here are some quotes to help you (all taken from Hogan's 5 Lessons):

I do genuinely believe this: THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING SWING AND BREAKING 80, if he learns to perform a small number of correct movements and conversely, it follows, eliminates a lot of movements which tend to keep the swing from repeating.

The average golfer's problem is not so much a lack of ability as it is a lack of knowing what he should do.

Within six months-as soon as that-an average golfer who has applied himself intelligently should be coming close to breaking 80 or actually breaking 80.

Most people don't know what to do. They go to the range and hit ball after ball... and as they do this they more deeply ingrain their bad habits.

Just 30 minutes of practice a day to the fundamentals (I recommend Hogan's 5 Lessons) will do wonders. You will extend your practice sessions to longer than 30 minutes, as you will be having too much fun developing a respectable swing and respectable game that will repeat .
As he improves, the average golfer will enjoy the game more and more, for a correct swing will enable him to rediscover golf-in fact, to discover golf for the first time.

You don't need to believe it. I believe it because I did it.

everyone's entitled to their own beliefs. You're a dime a dozen then my friend... and good for you and the few others that have done it.

Ben Hogan believed it and wrote it...it instills confidence which is a big part of this game that we play...at least I feel. But that still doesn't justify that the AVERAGE...which means AVERAGE. It is a collection of scores posted..and sure there's probably a bunch of low hc'ers that don't post their scores... but from what's posted the Avg score is 100. That's a proven # not a statement of believe. I'm glad that you believed in Hogan's rules and are killing the game right now. I honestly wish that I was a low hc'er that plays to it everytime out.. but i'm not. i'm an average dude that doesn't have the time to really practice anything...i've been to the range 4 times since the year started. so for you to have done it and the op to have done it..then y'all are on point and awesome. but still read the fact that the avg golfer shoots 100
