I Played today in league and hit a great tee shot on first hole hit a nice iron to the green and I said to myself. " gonna be a great day." Then the shoe fell.

Snap hook on 2 into the trees, hook into trees on 3, and hooked into the trees every time with the driver except for 9th and 15 when it didn't snap and it went into the pond. hit irons good all day, What a nightmare.

Do you really have to abandon this technique or is there something I don't know about hitting the long ball.

With more weight on the "front" [left] you have to pay attention to the swing path. Since there is more rotation based on that "point", you need to come in at the ball more on the inside, straight down the line will produce a STRONG draw. The other thing is the tilt, if you are performing more of a Reverse Pivot, that that will sent them left fast. Movement should be lateral, if you tilt forward during the down swing, you don't stand a chance. I really hate to give swing tips without seeing the swing, and I hope I haven't given you too much infomation, but good luck..... jmoc

Thanks for the swing tips. I will try these with the driver. I had been fighting the inside path because I thought that was making the ball hook. Have to fight the reverse pivot too. But when the swing is good the ball hunts the pins not just the greens. Have had more birdies per round with the stack and tilt but I've got to get the driver swing straightened out. again thanks

I am just realizing my current swing is close to Stack and Tilt.
I am reading here Stack and Tilt requires more hand eye coordination than a normal swing? I don't think this can be true since the goal of Stack and Tilt (kind of like Utley short game) is to keep your pivot around your front leg to guarantee consistent contact with the ball. I think you need more coordination when you are shifting your weight and centers back and forward during the swing.

I just read a golf digest description of the swing and it sounds hideously complicated. Keeping the spine in place and swinging around it as an axis of rotation is what I strive for. I don't see how tilting and shifting it all over the place during the swing could possibly achieve consistency.

Weight slightly forward at address, hand slightly forward as well. On the backswing, hands follow an inward path with no weight moving back at all. It's a shorter backswing than is customary. Right leg straightens at the top. Arms straighten on the downswing, hips tuck under and towards the target at the finish. Done correctly, the head does not move laterally at any point in the swing.

IMO, the stack and tilt is not a great option for most. From what I've seen it promotes a very steep angle of attack. This steep angle is going to require your timing has to be dead on. If not, you are going to get bad results such as some extreme chunks. I used to come in steep to the ball and my consistancy was quite poor. I have since moved to a flatter swing plane and my shots generally solid. So, I recommend going back to the traditional swing.

I have been trying for about a week and a half. My good shots are really good but I hit to many ugly ones. Should I keep the faith and continue or revert back to the old swing?

A friend of mine has just started working on it and is hitting the ball noticeably better. If course he's a beginner and doesn't have a lot of previous baggage weighing him down. That being said, I don't think you can say one way or another after just a week and a half, especially if you're changing from a swing that you've had for a while. It took Tiger quite a while to dial in his swing changes, and it should be easier for him than anyone. I say give it some time if you're happy with the good shots you're hitting. Those bad shots might just be your new swing fighting against your old swing, rather than a flaw in the stack and tilt method.

I'm a traditionalist. No funky swing for me.

I'm playing 40 yrs also and the Stack and Tilt has me hitting my irons crisper than I ever hit a ball before. I purchased the dvd s and I love this new method. I'm not convinced on the driver and fairway woods but my irons are smoking. I'm sticking irons on the green like a pro. I was a little disappointed in Mike and Andy's lessons on the videos for they never hit balls with their lessons, they showed how the divots should be taken in front of the ball, they showed how to swing but all without a ball in front of them. They should

have asked Johnny Miller how to shoot a video. I thought the video was very amateurish but I LOVE their method.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
