Played in a tournament today at my home course. Sucked so bad. Had One 4 Putt, and probably a dozen 3 putts. Took a Triple, a 10 on a par 5, and a bunch of other doubles. Something was really wrong today.

Finished off- 94.

went to go play 9 at a different course and still stunk up the joint. Not even funny I'm so pissed right now.

Hey come on, Dent we all have bad days. I just had a match. We won 8 to 1. Guess who was the only one who lost his match. I don't even want to say it, because I'll get sick.

Thats true, but If you were in my situation you would be slightly discouraged as well.

Last 3 Tournament Finishes: 99, 98, 94.

I just got a call from my coach, he said some lame college contacted him but at least it's a college!
He also told me that I would be team captain again.
Being a captain in my first year of playing on the team was probably the best accomplishment in golf for me so far.

It's always twice as hard in tournaments. I've got one coming up this saturday. But it's a best ball. Hope the score will be around 1 or 2 over. Or maybe even even.

Get to play in my first match Monday. Shoot a fifty and made the top 4th out of 5 scores that would play.Should have had a 47 or around there but I putted a par put in with the flagstick in cause no one would tend it. Also, on #8, a par five, I hit one into the no mow zone ane one into the water to end the hole with a 9.

My younger sister, who just turned 16, just started playing golf and joined her high school team. However, her coach sucks. While the girls are out playing a round of golf at practice he is not coaching them he is playing around with his buddy.

My sister has told me that she has very little contact with the coach while they are out playing. I don't know about you but I think this is all wrong. The point is to coach these girls so they get better not to get a free round of golf every week.

Does anyone else have this problem with their coaches?

With my old coach it was the exact opposite. When we had our practice rounds he would stand about 1 foot next to our ball while we hit and would keep standing there to see if we could handle the pressure.

high school golf is a great opportunity to watch your golf game improve. i have been on mine since the seventh grade and im a sophomore now and i watched my handicap drop from too high to know down to single digits and this year im gonna be the top player and get to see if i can get to scratch consistently.

This is pretty much exactly what I did. Started in seventh grade, now I'm a sophomore with a 6 index. It's strange, you don't notice how much better you've gotten until your crappy rounds were once your good rounds. But I can't wait for season, it makes school go by fast and I'm looking forward to be full Varsity this year, our school has a good chance of winning league this year.

^^sounds like fun. my team did that before the season and we played well but i forgot what the points were at the end. my team just won our district tournament last tuesday and we also won our regional tournament yesterday. state will be next tuesday and wednesday. i play number 3 spot on my team. i have shot 77 so many times over the past week. its annoying me cuz i usually shoot 73-74. best of luck to everybody with state coming up or teams that plan on going to state!!!

Played last practice today. Shot my best there ever, a 49. I started the season in mid August shooting high 60's to shooting a 49 five short weeks later. I'm sure If I still had a few more weeks of practice, I could shoot under 45. Just need to get a driver that works for me.

    • Day 554, May 9, 2024 Practiced a bit downtown at Golf Evolution. Would have loved to get more work in, but oh well.
    • I think if I could hit a 2nd shot when I did not like the result from the 1st I am sure I would get some lower scores.  I guess the idea is to mentally put yourself in a position where you need to make a really great shot, not just a good shot.  For example, hitting from the lie next to the creek his 1st chip was, in my view, pretty good but it was not "Great" in his opinion so he tried to do better on the mulligan, but he failed and was farther from the hole. I see myself doing this more on the range.  For example, after a period of practice I will mentally say I need to hit 4 good shots in a row.  I start with a Driver and if that is good then I do a 3 Hybrid followed by a pitch with a wedge and finally by a short chip.  If any shot is "Bad" I have to start over.
    • That’s how I interpreted it. You’re giving yourself two mulligans on every shot. Yea it’s just a variation of getting used to scoring low. I’m curious how valuable that practice is. I guess for some people they feel mounting pressure from playing a string of holes well? I’m kind of the complete opposite TBH. Once I start putting together good holes, I get a little swagger and if anything I get overconfident. I start thinking I can hit the green from anywhere, I can hit my driver to the smallest of targets, and everything inside of 10’ is going in. None of that is true, of course, and I inevitably will hit a miss that brings me back down to earth.

    • I saw this video yesterday, couldn't figure out what he meant, then saw this thread and thought "oh maybe someone knows what he was talking about" and you guys are in the same place as me.  I *think* what he's suggesting is that you play a game such that going low is expected. He said there are different variations of it. I think his variation is you get three goes at a shot. You hit your first shot and it's good enough, then you just take it. If it's not good enough then you can abandon that shot and play another. If you still don't like it, you can hit it a third time, but then you're stuck with it. He's good enough that three goes at a shot ought to give him one that's good enough to move on. He did mention his parameters for what counts as "good enough", although I do note that he should have hit a third go on that pitch from the hazard based on that. He holed the putt though so it worked out in the end. I think if you're not as good as he is (which let's face it is everyone here and virtually everyone on the planet), then you'd adjust those rules to make it such that you might manage to make 5 birdies in a row. So maybe you play a two ball scramble with yourself and if you don't like either one then you can abandon those and hit a third or you play a three ball scramble or whatever it is that you need to make your standard work.  At its base though, it's just like going out and playing from the front tees or playing a scramble with yourself. The goal is to gain comfort with making lots of birdies and going way under par, so that when you find yourself in that situation in a real game, you don't panic. It's an interesting variation and if I ever got to play "for fun" at my home course, then I'd definitely try it.
