If you hit hybrids well, maybe a 2 or (if you can find one) 1 Hybrid. They will be very close to your 3 wood distance.

I also cant hit fairway woods consistantly well, Ive dumped them for the 18 and 21 * Mizuno hifli which I get good results from.If your 3 hybrid is ok give the 18* (2 iron) a go.They are also great off the tee when the driver is missbehaving

If you want a wedge maybe a 64 deg? I really love mine and I'm pretty good around the green with it.

Otherwise I'd also suggest a 2 or 1 hybrid. They're great from off the deck and off the tee.

How's your wedge play? You have a 7-degree gap between your PW & 54 degree. For some folks, that difference is fine (Tiger has 6 degrees between his PW and SW), and if nothing's the matter with your wedge game, you don't need another.

That having been said, I'm going to give you a soft answer: "I don't know. And neither do you - yet." Here's how to find out: as you play your home course with 13 clubs, if you ever find yourself needing a club - saying something like "I wish I could hit my 4I from this lie. 3H is too much, and I don't think I can get a solid shot with my 4I from here," make a note of it. If you start to wish for the same club over and over, that's the one. By the way, you might notice I carry two 3 "hybrid"s. At the moment, that's because I'm still getting used to the FLI-HI and didn't have a 14th club to take at the time. I am making my own notes as to what I wish I had at various points, and I will probably purchase a new 14th club about the time I replace my woods (estimated at a month or so from now).

My previous wedge game (52, 56, 60) was excellent, but I wanted to get 54, 58, and haven't played a round with them yet.

So far, I'm thinking along the lines of a 50* wedge, a 64* wedge, or a 2H.

A fairway wood needs a lot of practice - and so does any wedge >= 60°. Since you already have an 58 and if you feel save with it when opening the face there is no real need for a higher lofted wedge imo.

I didnt used a 50°(gap) wedge for a long time - now it has become one of my most used clubs.

Id add a 50*-52* wedge if it were me. I would worry about a higher lofted wedge if it were me, Ive got a 68* and its pretty worthless.

Thanks all who gave some advice. It was between a 1 or 2 hybrid, a 50* wedge, or a 64* wedge.

I didn't want to spend ANOTHER $100, and I found an excellent deal on a 64* Cleveland 588 wedge for $40 shipped and took it.

I would carry a 60 degree wedge with low bounce.

If you are not hitting your 3 wood is it a 13 or 15 degree? How do you hit your 4 and 5 irons?

What about a putter/chipper combo like the Odyssey Marxman? These can be pretty useful depending on the greens where you play the most.

I components! Currently playing Alpha and Nakashima.

    • The course is playing tough. We’re only about 50 miles away. It very windy here and going to get worse. They’re all dressed like it’s the British Open!
    • Have posted in a while or practiced for that matter. Dealing with a few medical issues. But I was able to practice and film today. I’ve played 5 times this year. Misses have been pulls or heavy shots. I feel this has a lot to do with my lower back issues. When I feel good, I get good rotation and I hit the ball well. Today I felt good. Hips and lower back felt nice and flexible. I worked mainly on the hands feeling from the top. The club head should feel like it’s going down and away from the ball and target at the start of the downswing. The right knee should stay a little flexed at the top. These are the only swing thoughts other than high hands (arms going up) I’ve been focused on. I did PW, 6 iron and Driver today. Here is PW. The hands look better as does the knee in the rehearsal. The knee gets more straight in the actual swing.   My left arm is not straight at impact, which it has never really been. But that’s not the focus of this practice.   6 iron looks better than last time. Driver also looks better than last time. Playing tomorrow. Hopefully my body will cooperate.

    • The way to practice this is not at full speed, even if you do manage to "change" something. But no, not quite like that. That's a late lift, but you still have the early roll, and you stand up too much in that swing (likely in trying to "lift" — the "lift" is relative to your torso, not the ground).
