rotation issues

I used to golf when I was younger and am just now getting back into it. Of course, though, I've forgotten some things such as certain swing techniques, so I've been researching that the last few days.

It seems the most important (or one of them) thing is to rotate the hips.

However, this is a slight problem for me because I am handicapped (in the literal sense, not golf meaning...haha). I have really tight muscles as a result of my disability and it makes it hard to rotate, but I've only known how to play standing up so I don't want to make the switch to adaptive (wheelchair) golf.

So my question is: Is there a way to strike the ball well without too much rotation, or am I just going to have to try my hardest to get more flexible?

I have seen and heard of golfers adapt to physical handicap like your and are enjoying playing golf like eveyone else.

One person came to my son's First Tee program in San Francisco and he was unable to walk, he used a modify golf chart that had a seat that swung out on the side of the cart to allow him to swing and hit a golf ball. He hit it long and straight.

Another person is a blind golfer that made a hole in one recently. I have seen a one handed golfer, a double amputee golfer and I am sure because golf is such a great game that there are many others out there with physical handicap that are enjoying the game.

I wonder if some adaptation of the "stack and tilt" method would help you; google search it and you'll find plenty of info on it.

ks8829 - The thing is I don't want to fundamentally change the way I play the game. I want to stand up with two feet on the ground and both hands on the golf club because that's how I've learned to play.

alf174 - I'll definitely try that - thanks for the tip! I have a feeling it will be just as hard because my pelvis is all kinds of jacked up...but if it is going to take a lot of work to get my hips to rotate, I guess I'm just going to have to work hard to get flexible...

stack and tilt might work .. there is another method out there called the natural golf swing that might work well too .. that uses the arc of the swing to generate club head speed and I don't see a lot of rotation in that one.

After watching a few videos on different swings, I've concluded that it's just something I have to stretch out and try my hardest to adapt to how I play. My biggest trouble seems to be getting that final rotation of the hips so my belt buckle faces the target. It's hard for me to rotate my hips and balance so my back foot pivots. But it seems that's a constant in virtually all swings.

Oh well, back to stretching! I guess golf is as good a motivation as any to stretch well, huh?
