Golf ball adoption

As we all know, the golf balls we use today are nothing like the balls from the past.

Question - What was the adoption rate like when switching from featheries, gutta percha, balata, etc...were players/people generally accepting of the technology changes?

Can't you just look this up? I doubt very many of us here were around back in the days of the featherie or gutta percha to be able to answer you. I know some resented the new ball, but it represented a dramatic (like 60%) increase in distance, so quite unlike anything we've seen since.

Adoption from balata to the solid-core balls was fairly swift. Pros made changes during the offseason. One year it was mostly balatas on Tour, the next year mostly solid-core balls.
