I have a dilemma.

I want to get fitted for EVERYTHING and i have the oppurtunity to do so at Hotstix where i work (Doral Arrowwood). However, i feel as if my swing is not where i want it to be yet and to get fitted now would actually be detrimental to my game later on as i fix the problems that i currently have.

I also have a dilemma with the fact that i want to buy 2009 equipment so i don't see why getting fit now would be a good idea when i would want to get fit for the new stuff, not what's out now.

The dilemma part is that in the meantime, i'm playing with clubs that are completely incorrect for me and i'm continuing to develop bad habits that could easily be fixed with fitted clubs. ugghhh this sucks! what do i do?

with your Hdcp your game is better than most and you should definitely know what your fit should be. grip size, lie, flex, length, those will not change with a new set of any clubs for you. loft is the only thing left to choose. flex according to your swing speed is big, then theres your lie which would normally be the same with a new set, and only change if your setup changes like your stand closer or more erect. then there's your grip size which for about 25% of guys have the wrong size which can hurt you. and lastly the lofts, knowing what you have and how you might want to change a couple of them to cover your yardages better. I still have my old lofts on my sets from collage which is a 46* for a 9iron and my PW is 49* today's lofts are just to much carry I feel, like a 9 now days is like 42* which is too much for me.... I like the older loft scale. anyway getting fitted will help your game a bit and your in the area where every couple of strokes makes a huge difference. good luck

I am in much the same boat..

MY swing is working out just fine.. Im hitting greens etc etc, but ti doesnt feel right..

Personally, hot stix probobly wouldnt charge you a whole lot to get fitted would they? you could always get your specs now, and feel better about it.

2nd, what new gear are you planning on getting? if you plan on keeping say the irons, you could get them handled now and the rest later.

If the bad habits really are hurting you, you have to decide if its worth teh money to spend on these current clubs and keep your game, or to hurt your game for a few extra dollars in the old wallet.

Good to be back JYB!

If the fitting is free, then you can just get your irons/wedges retro fitted for your current swing and adjust the lie accordingly. As far as the woods, a fitting will only improve your distance with new equipment that fits better so it's not as big of a deal. Getting your irons retro fitted won't cost you as much money and can help you out in the short run. And when you're ready to spend the big $, get fitted for all new equipment in '09.

i just don't want to give my clubs to hotstix for two weeks and not be able to play for that entire time. i think i'm just going to wait until the 09' stuff comes out and hopefully by then, i'll have my swing down to a science and i'll be able to get fitted to clubs with a swing that i'm going to keep.

why do you care so much about the 09' stuff... I bought clubs in January knowing they were coming out with a new set over the summer.... as it turns out I like the ones I got MUCH better than the new ones. Plus, older stuff is usually cheaper.

JYB, I know how you feel. Like you, I didn't want to get fitted until 1. I was completely happy with my swing, and 2. I could afford the clubs of choice.
Now that I have finally been fitted for my clubs, I have realised three things: 1. I will NEVER be completely happy with my swing (I just have to keep practicing and improving), 2. I will never be able to afford all the things I really want, and 3. I can always buy new clubs down the track when (if) my swing does improve sufficiently to deserve new clubs. More importantly, with my new (fitted) clubs, I have gained much better consistency of ball striking and gained two clubs length on each club (ie. I now hit my 7i the distance I was hitting my 5i). All in all, I highly recommend getting fitted now if you want to enjoy you golf a whole lot more. (IMHO) Good luck.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
