I recently won a 56* Vokey wedge in oilcan finish off of Ebay and it arrived yesterday.
Maybe Im just being too nitpicky here, but I think its kind of ugly.
It works great and I love the feel of it, but Im not all that crazy about how it looks.
Anybody else feel this way?

Which part of it don't you like? The finish or the shape? I personally like them. But, out of curiosity, if it works great, and you love the feel of it....plus it was free?? What's the problem? If you handed me a shovel, and it felt good and I could score with it - I'd use a whole set of shovels! I could care less how it looks. Hahaha...

Yeah, I understand completely. I loved my old Hogan Sure Out from the '80s but stupidly dented it in a hazard at a course in Palm Springs recently and have been looking for a replacement.

Since Vokey is the hot club I've looked at it many times at golf shops but I can't shake how comparatively ugly it is.

Yeah, I won the Ebay auction. I wish I had gotten it for free, but at $33, I cant complain.

I guess what I find to be ugly is the finish. It makes the club look all rusty and old. Dont misunderstand me, Im not complaining. I got this club for dirt cheap, but I dunno. I guess Im just not feeling the oilcan finish. I'll play this club until I wear the grooves off of the face, but I dont foresee myself ever buying another oilcan Vokey.

you can soak the oil cans in coke and the finish will come off leaving you with a raw vokey. Ive neber done it but have seen the results and they look good. you would just have to be aware that the raw vokey would get rusty very easily.

I don't really like it either, to be honest. My dad has one, never liked it. I just prefer the chrome spin-milled finish.

I guess I don't mind the rusting look, I know it doesn't help any, but I do love the original oil-can finish when they are brand new. Too bad Titleist can't sell them to stay that way. I guess they perform well enough so I don't mind what they look like :)

Ive ALWAYS hated the look. Even new. then when they get rusty, i can't stand them. The tour chrome look alot more clean and professional.

I agree! I just think that the color is ugly. If I ever buy vokeys then I'm going to get chrome.

It'll turn silver with some soft scrubbing, and the club also plays well.

The look of a brand new oil can Vokey is IMHO great, but when you see a well used one that has rusted, I hate them. That was why I went with the Tour Chrome finish instead - it stays looking nicer for longer.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
