I am not trying to be funny or wad...this is a serious question i am asking...

I recently got my handicap...and it is possible to reach to a single handicap in about 2 years of hardwork and practise?...
Handicap Index: 16.4

Hybrid: Taylormade Rescue Dual 22 Degree
Iron: Macgregor Mactech M685 (4-PW)Wedge: Honshin Professional Wedge 56 Degree , Adam Golf Tom Watson 2007 Wedge 60 DegreePutter: Honshin PutterBall: Taylormade TP/Red

Well I'm no expert but with the right amount of practice, instruction and determination I'd say you should be able to.

I'm not sure of the weather situtation where you are but a quick search shows average temps that let you play all year. If thats the case then I'd think you should be able to get where you want.

The biggest help for me was taking lessons. Just remember to find an instructor you like and one that can help you get where you want. Last year I probably saw about 5 different instructors before I found one I was really happy with. You're paying so make sure you get what you want.

A single digit handicap is only a nine. You wouldn't believe how bad most 9-handicappers play. Remember, only the best 10 of the last 20 count towards your handicap, so scores of 81, 87, 88, 80, 83, 85, 88, 81, 80, 86 (etc.) will get you that single-digit handicap at an average (difficulty, par, etc.) course.

i currently has an instructor...he goes beyond what a average instructor will do for me...other than the regular lesson...sometime he will take time to fix some quick error i do...no problem with him at all...

As for weather...i live in Singapore...most of the time is just Sun, Sun and Sun...other than dec...don't rain too much... To Iacas: Do u know any site that has more in detail of how do they count your handicap...thanks...

This whole handicap stuff is still a mystery to me. I tried readin about it on USGA, but its SO much information that its too confusing. Does The Sand Trap have an article about this?

erf.. so much info.. too much!

yea, it can get over the top a bit... Let's try to do it simple way : your handicap index is an estimate number of strokes you'll play over par on a given golf course, assuming you'll play better than average. It represents your potential to score more than your average scoring. The main factor is the course slope, which represents how hard the course is (higher number = harder course). For example assuming "average hard course" with handicap 10 you'll have most of your rounds around 85 ( 72 + 10 = 82 = that's your potential, your average will be slightly higher ).

You already have it covered, but I would make sure that your practice included help from the local pro. As hard as it would be already, it would be even harder without help of a good instruction.

Also, do not forget to spend ample time around the practice green. That is the area you will help save the most strokes.

I think that anything is possible, but it will be difficult.

Fairways and Greens.

Can you establish a handicap playing at executive courses? Even if they are 9 holes? I just played

hey..I've played there MANY times when I lived in Burbank..that 8th dog leg right par 4 is....

Here's the answer from a beginner, sort of. I took three lessons this April. By the end of the season I was shooting about 8 over after playing only like 9 rounds during the summer. How'd I do it. Hitting balls at the driving range three times a week and hitting them mostly correct rather than like so many people who go to the driving range to clobber the balls, and along with that about 1-2 hours on the practice green chipping and putting. And now, during winter, I practice every day, indoors putting and chipping. Next summer I hope to get my handicap as close to 0 as possible. I'm sure you can get under 10 with no problem. And I so much agree, you must have an instructor you really like and believe in as it gives you the motivation to do better.

yes, as long you have USGA rating and slope for the course you can post your scores ==> you can use it for handicap purposes.

yupe...i has been under a help since i started golf from a local pro here...practising around the green here is tough given that the range i practice doesn't have a green to practice chipping...i usually travel to another place to practice to boost them up a bit so i do both not together...

one day i hit balls for 1-3 hours another day i on the green for 1-3 hours...

Sure it's possible. If married then you better have an understanding wife. Once I made the decission to play seriously I practiced putting and chipping 5 nights a week for an hour each session. I spent days off at the range for 4 hours then went out and played 18 holes. I later found out that the range time actually hurt my game because it was too easy to hit the same club til you got it right. What I changed and found I improved faster was a 30 minute session on the range and 30 minutes chipping and putting. I would then go out for 36 holes after that. It can be done cause in 10 months straight doing this I went from a 23.7 to 7.2 I live in Arizona and play 12 months a year and never have to worry about layoffs because of winter.
My handicap skyrocketed lately because of changing to the wrong equipment but is starting to come back down with my new set. I plan on being around a 3 or 4 handicap within the next 12 weeks as I will return to playing tournament golf on the Pepsi tour the first of April. Good luck and stick with it. Yes you can!!!!!
