Well a couple of weeks ago when i played i was slicing the ball to the right, last week i also did that and i finished up my day with driving about 60 balls, i finally got to where i dont slice it as much but still a little, but then i went today and i hit about 3 of my drives completely straight, about 3 sliced and 3 hooked to the left, is there any suggestions on what i am doing and what is causing the hook to the left?

Its not always how you drive the ball, but how it arrives.

Are you sure its a hook and not a pull... most slicers, when the ball goes left, tend to pull it.

But to give you a simple answer... if you are hooking it, you are probably coming too far from the inside. If you are slicing it, you are probably coming too steep and over the top.

The thing that works best for me is a nice, slow back swing and a 75% downswing... this tends to straighten me out.

alright thanks, and ur right, it might be that i am pulling it.

The ball flight will tell you everything you need to know. If it starts straight left, it's a pull (outside in). If it starts straight right, it's a push(inside out). If the ball curves left later, then the face is closed relative to your swing path. If the ball curves right later, then the face is open relative to your swing path. You can any combination of the above. Just watch the ball flight closely! You can have a pull hook, pull, pull slice, straight hook, straight, stright slice, push hook, push or push slice.......exhausting huh?

What happens with a perfectly square club face at impact on an inside out swing path?

Will the ball flight be a straight line or will there be a curvature to it? What would you call this ball flight?

I would say it would just start going right to begin with and have little curve to it if I had to guess.

Things I Am Good at in Golf

- Hitting it in the drink
- Finding the rough with my drive
- Staying in the bunker- Hitting grassburners all the way to the hole- Three putting- Posting over par on 18 in only 9 holes- Swinging and missing with an iron

How did you get there to not slicing that much anymore? I see people artifically closing down there clubfaces or manipulating with their hands to get rid of the slice - which obv. isnt a good solution? What in your opinion do you do different to the time when you reguallry sliced the ball?

well my nana and grandpa helped me, and they said that in my follow through swing i was kinda stopping and not following through as good, so then i made sure i followed through better and i hit it perfectly straight, and they also told me i wasnt using my hips at all and that added some yards too

    • Day 1: After a long practice layoff due to injury, vacation, winter darkness, and work stuff, I'm trying to start back up again. Today I just hit balls with keys from my lesson 6-ish weeks ago; neutral grip and centered turn. Gonna work with that for a few weeks, see how it goes, and then get a lesson scheduled.
    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
