When i hit it right, I carry my driver a good 180-200 yds, but i ALWAYS get another 30-40 yards of roll on it. (i dont get a lot of height with my driver)

And whenever i can manage to hit my 3w (actually my 18* hybrid) off the deck, its good for around 200 yds. my distances aren't that big, but i'm just a beginner. i guess im like most of the other people in this thread though and there is a good 30-40 yard differnence between my driver and 3w.

and just like stated earlier, i think its better to start learning with a driver. the sooner the better. it might not really matter on the 300-350 yard par 4's but when you get to the longer par 4's and par 5's, your gunna love being able to get the extra 30-40 yards off the tee and getting yourself in closer range of the pin so that you can use those shorter, more controlled clubs for your second/third shots, instead of long irons.

Driver - 275 carry

3 wood- 235 carry.

If you like the 3 wood, and never wish you had a driver. Keep it going.

If you want to improve, hit it further and maybe have more fun, go try out all the drivers, with all the shafts. Now is a great time to buy! End of season clearouts, and most places will be selling their DEMO clubs right now. Our demos usually sell for 35 percent less than what they were new.

    • Can you elaborate on this?  There's a par-4 hole at the course I've played the most (was my home course for over a decade, now 50 miles away but I still go and play there) whose green is below the fairway and I realized recently it's one of three holes on the course I've never made birdie, despite that I often have a short iron into the green for my second shot.  It isn't even that I haven't made birdie, but I realize I often don't hit the green.  My typical play of the hole is to have a near-GIR and sometimes I get up and down, but not as often as I would if I were trying to 2-putt.
