You could put something together for Cafe Press, but I'm guessing you might get sued...

I'm glad this WITB (Whats In The Boxers) thread is generating such lively discussion.

Anyway, I've got a Grafalloy Blue stiff-flex shaft on the way. Should be here the beginning of next week. That should help bring the ball flight down a bit and add a bit of accuracy to the bag. I'm looking around for just the right fairway wood shafts too so that I don't have to play those whippy regulars this season. I'd like to have them all replaced by the beginning of February as I've got a tee time at Gold Mountain, home of the upcoming 2006 USGA Amatuer on the 3rd and 4th.

I've added a Grafalloy Blue stiff to the driver. Wow. I hit it strait compared to the hook machine I had in there before. I was constantly hitting 8 yard draw-hooks with the regular-flex. Shaft flex makes a world of difference.

I didn't give up any distance in the transaction either. Probably gained a little.

Eight yards is nothing. Dunno if your Newport Cup experience was typical, but you were hitting balls everywhere with the R flex. Toldja.

You weren't kidding about flex making a difference. I'm still inconsistent but I'm seeing now that its ball placement and a bad swing not so much my highish swing speed causing problems.

Yeah...I think those whippy shafts were causing some big problems but you've already found out that your problems will move to other areas. The good news is that, at some point, the problems get smaller and smaller and easier to identify.

Fairways and Greens.

Yeah, its very important to get fitted for shafts. It seems that in Jeff's case his regular flex shaft was whipping through the ball making it hook, but thats the opposite of the case for me. Whippy shafts make me slice the ball. I think it has to do with the way I accelerate throughout my swing, through the ball etc etc. Anyways, the point is get fitted ! it just makes life easier.

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
