I was just wondering how often the pros on the PGA Tour would replace their clubs?

I'm not talking about a complete change in manufacturer or model, but just to keep them new.

A new set before every match? Every week, regardless of playing in a match or not? Only once, at the beginning of the season?

During a 4-day match, perhaps a new set each day?!?

i heard Vijay changes his wedges after each tourney.

Changing wedges sounds right. I don't know for sure but my guess would be after every couple events.

After every match seems like overkill unless they got really beat up.

Wedges typically about 4x a year.

Irons and everything else, oh, once a year or so.

After every round? You're friggin' nuts.

They don't change nearly as much as I thought. Steve Stricker still plays a Titleist driver that is a few years old. I know most guys don't replace putters very often, usually have them for a while.

Do you mean he has the EXACT same driver for a few years? Because many pros will use the same model for a while, but they will get new ones of the same model during the course of a season.

No they won't. They're picky enough to know that they like a certain driver with a certain shaft. Unless they're struggling with their ball flight or something, he'll keep the same

exact driver - the one that's 9.42° instead of the others, which are 9.57° or 9.31° or whatever and a few grams heavier.

I remember something about maybe Greg Norman or someone about that time frame who's house was broken into and all he wanted was his clubs. I can imagine that those guys spend hours getting thier irons and woods right. Hardly seems worth it to change it up every year, besides trying new technology.

Tiger Woods:

Hardly ever? I'm pretty sure he's never changed his putter?

And I'm surprised only every 3-4 months with wedges considering he plays so much and does so much practice with them.

My mistake - I meant career-wise he's changed 3 times since 1997:

X-SLC > Newport TEi3 > Studio Select Newport 2 In a Golf Digest interview he stated how often he changed his clubs: low/mid-irons changed once every eight months and 8, 9, PW, 56° every 4 months.

I heard on TGC that C. Stadler went around 10 years with the same set.
He only replaced the wedges.
I that crazy?

I heard the tour guys break faces all of the time.

It would suck to do it in a tourney during a round.
