I just bought a new set of Taylor Made r7's - from TM site they say my PW is 45 degree and if I get a gap of the same set it will be 50 and the sand wedge 55.

I really want to get a vokey wedge and need a gap wedge bad - my question is 52 degree vokey 200 series a good gap wedge and 2nd part is - would the 45 - 52 "gap" be too big...?

Then I was thinking of adding a 56 vokey to close out my wedges... ;)
In the bag:

Irons: Taylor Made r7 Steel Reg 3-PW

an increasingly common problem with newer sets...I'd consider 3 wedges. My first preference is 50 (GW), 54 (SW) and 58 (LW) and an alternative is 50 (GW), 56 (SW) and 60 (LW). Get the GW as part of the TM set and the SW and LW in Titleist Spin Mill.

Driver: TaylorMade RocketBallz 10.5-deg
Woods: Cobra Bio Cell+ 3W and 5W
Hybrids: Bobby Jones Workshop Hybrid 3 (20-deg) and 5 (25-deg)

I go 46, 50, 55 60.

If you are going to use your GW mostly for full shots, you might want to go with the R7. If you plan on also using it for some chips, half pitches, long bunkers and such, then go with the Vokey 200.

i'm thinking of getting a 54ΒΊ and a 60ΒΊ vokey spin milled (when they come out with the new ones) and having them bent 1ΒΊ strong to 53ΒΊ and 59ΒΊ, each with 8ΒΊ of bounce.

My TM set gave me the same issue.

I currently play a 50* gap wedge, mostly because a 52 left about a 25 yard gap between my pitching wedge.

I would go with 50*, 54*, 58* for sure.

With different club weights and shafts I'd just go demo some wedges somewhere or hit them in a simulator. If you do simulator make sure that you bring your PW too so that you can get a base for the distance in the simulator. I'd personally just hit until I found the club that I hit the distance that I was looking for. Good luck!!!!

Figured I'd bump this thread instead of making a new one...

I just bought a set of new R7 Draw irons 4-SW... 8 clubs (4,5,6,7,8,9,PW,SW). And they have stronger lofts than most irons already do, the PW is 44* and the SW is 54*. I was figuring on getting a 49* or 50* gap/approach wedge, but will it really make a difference if it isn't an r7 draw wedge? I also have a Vokey 58*

In my stand Bag:

R7 Superquad 10.5* Fujikura REAX 65-S

49* would be right in the middle of your gap. However, your r7 PW and SW (since they are cavities) will hit the ball farther than a similarly lofted traditional wedge.

I would buy a traditional SW of 54*, a 49* (bent from 50* or 48*) and keep that 58* you have. IMO, if you plan to use the 49* or 50* primarily from the fairway, it's beneficial to buy the matching GW. It will give you better yardage gaps and more forgiveness.

Have a 46* PW and went with a 51* GW (delofted to 50*) and a 56* and 60* Vokeys. Also delofter the 56 to 55* to keep and even spacing in the lofts.

Seems to work

I think 7 degrees might be too much of a gap. Why not a 50 degree Vokey? Then a 56* SW to complete the set. No need for a 60 (IMHO).
