Looks like the golf channel is in. Should be pretty dang good for them. I'm sure some will be upset about it because the golf channel is not a standard channel on alot of cable and satellite providers. Wonder if thats going to hurt the ratings any? I know my grandparents occasionaly watch some golf but they will not pay extra on their satellite to get it.

from the golf channel
Speculation ended today when PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem announced that The Golf Channel will become the exclusive cable television home for the PGA Tour's official money events beginning in 2007. The exclusive deal is not only unprecedented in golf, but also will make the 24-hour golf network the Tour's biggest television partner. In the new contract, 48 PGA Tour events per year will be televised by The Golf Channel, giving the cable network a lion’s share of the television coverage and the entire cable package. The Golf Channel’s annual coverage will feature early-round coverage of the entire FedEx Cup season, including the World Golf Championships, The Tour Championship – the official end of the point’s season that will determine the FedEx Cup winner and provide what is expected to be sports’ largest payoff – and The Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s crown jewel. Early round coverage also will include several popular late-season tournaments, including the Target World Challenge, Shark Shootout and a WGC event scheduled to take place in China. In total, early-round coverage of 33 events will air on The Golf Channel

Well I kind of think its a good idea to have a golf channel cover the tournaments. Who would have better connections to get some great announcers. I think it should be a good move.

Greetings ...

The contracts that were agreed on today do not include coverage of the 4 Grand Slam Major Championships - which are not run by the PGA Tour.

Currently, the TV coverage for the Majors is as follows --

Masters (USA and CBS)
U.S. Open (ESPN and NBC)
British Open (TNT and ABC)
PGA Championship (TNT and CBS)

Also, the "Cups" Coverage is as follows --

Presidents Cup (TNT and NBC)
Ryder Cup (USA and NBC)

If USA and ESPN elect to drop out of ALL golf coverage after 2006, it'll be interesting to see if TGC and TNT go after those packages. One thing should be kept in mind - USA and NBC are owned by the same company, so USA is not necessarily "totally out" just yet.

And what is to be the fate of the ABC-ESPN announcers after 2006? Ian Baker-Finch, Andy North, Judy Rankin, Paul Azinger, Nick Faldo, Bill Kratzert and Billy Ray Brown are sure to be grabbed up by somebody, while Peter Alliss might be playing his swan song in 2006.

Another thing to keep in mind. Although she's not hinted at what her future plans are (other than family), Jennifer Mills, recently retired from the Golf Channel, could conceivably surface on a part-time basis.

We'll just wait and see.

Meanwhile, a "TV casualty" ---

Beginning 2007, the Bob Hope Classic will be seen only on cable, on the Golf Channel.

Hard to believe that this venerable tournament will no longer be on broadcast TV. Has it really lost that much prestige since Mr. Hope passed away?

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Thanks for the article Everardo. http://thesandtrap.com/archives/pga/...agreements.php

Now personally after watching the first day of espn's second golf tournament of the year I'm glad they are out. Their coverage drives me crazy. In the first hour we spent more time watching the announcers than getting to see actual golf. Did they ever show the full field leaderboard? Everyone I saw was about 2 pages and maybe 25 golfers. Golfers want to watch golf. After every commercial we do not need 5 minutes of Wie's 9 over round.

How about having a camera crew that can follow the golf ball. When appleby was hitting from out of the trees once the cameraman completely lost the ball and had to wait for the crowd to start pointing it out before they found it. There was at least one other similar incident but I don't remember exactly.

Sorry but espn likes to talk sports. So keep talking and leave the filming up to someone who will actually show it.

Thanks for the article Everardo.

You are right jeez I could get more out of listening to it on the radio. How many times did someone hit a ball the on-course announcer describes it and the camera man searchs until he finally finds the ball after it has already come to a stop. And for the love, Sideshow Wie shot 100, we know!!!! we no longer care!!!! get to someone who might actually have a influence on the outcome of the tournament.

    • Day 153: putted for a while using the 2 cups drill inside. Working on bead primarily. Contact was really good.
    • Day 8: 12/17/2024 Okay I took my new PPJ swing thought to the range today. I wasn't sure I was quite ready to do so, but I'm glad I did.  When I got it right it was good... really good. When I got it wrong it was a major fail. I hit lots of really ugly ones. But I didn't let that deter me. I stayed committed and focused on the PPJ and I avoided any temptation to go back to what I was doing before just so that I could "look" better at the range. I'm pretty excited about what I saw when I got it right.  I hit the 6 iron mostly (nearly all block work today). I also hit about 6 balls each with the PW, 8I, 5W and Driver. Those had varying degrees of success. I did crack one drive that let me feel and see what the changes will look like once I get fully trained.  Anyway, I'm going to go back to the mirror work for a couple of more days before bringing it back to the range. I do feel like if I can get this right my swing will improve a lot. So I think its worth the effort. I liked the way it looked on GEARs when I get it right, and I like the results I got at the range when I got it right. Now the goal is to work towards getting it right more often.
    • So I think it's that they can't just bend the shaft or hosel to get it to a new lie angle. They adjust that and it changes the weighting, so they have to then adjust all the weights to get it balanced again. I get the impression that it's a bit of an iterative process and they do it all in the US, so they're paying US labor costs to build it and make it work how it's supposed to. Whether you believe in the tech or not, I think that's a true statement.
    • Ah, the old EE in the backswing move. Chest going back and staying down doesn't help.
