I have got a bad habit in raising my head when swinging. I am trying to slow my backswing and swing more smoothly. This has helped. Any suggestions in fixing this. One golf partner says he can is going to use the rope training aid to help cure me. You tie a rope around your neck and tie the other end to a body part. Need advice to a alternate solution.

Thanks

loosen your grip pressure, the tight grip provides tension that run up your arm and cause your head to rise while you are swing your club.

Thanks for the comment on the grip pressure.

I have several things I think about before I swing. I think about my swing plane, I think about slowing my backswing, I think about keeping my head down and looseing my grip. I also think about not overswinging. I have noticed when I keep my grip looser I usually strike the ball much better. I believe that one tip if I can execute it it will make me a better golfer. Thanks

One other comment on raising my head.

I seen on a video were an instructor stated that many golfers thinks they raise their head to watch the ball he said that is not right he said they raise their head because they are doing something wrong which causes this to happen and I can see were a tight grip can cause more tension. Thanks again.

I'd say don't worry about the head, work on keeping your spine angle and staying in the shot.

Pick one dimple on the back of the ball and focus on that.

One more thing, I used to force myself into what I was told was a good stance. I had a more bent over spine angle at address than I felt comfortable with. During the downswing I would return to my natural angle and that made me stand up. Now I just address the ball with what feels right (about 20* for me). Now when I return the club, I'm back where I started.

    • Day 1: After a long practice layoff due to injury, vacation, winter darkness, and work stuff, I'm trying to start back up again. Today I just hit balls with keys from my lesson 6-ish weeks ago; neutral grip and centered turn. Gonna work with that for a few weeks, see how it goes, and then get a lesson scheduled.
    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
