I love playing in inclement conditions, because I don't let it get to me. I love playing in the rain, too. I can make some hay against better golfers because I take a positive attitude. I do the same in bowling when the lane oil conditions are tough.

I love to hear people start griping about the conditions, because I know I'm winning part of the battle without even having to take a shot. My greatest weapon is my mental game (since my physical game pretty much stinks), so when I can score using my head, it's playing into my strengths, however meager they might be.

I guess it's because of my approach to tough conditions that I don't see all that much loss of distance on my drives, or have quite as much of a problem on the greens. In fact, my scores don't seem to suffer much at all. And if I score well in difficult environments, I really feel like I've done something. It's quite gratifying.

Year round.....'round here!!!!

The climate down here lends itself wonderfully to winter golf.

It's sort of our payback for enduring July and August golf above 100 degrees!!!! This August was the most mild I can remember....ever. Hope this doesn't mean the winter will be to harsh.

We may have to alter our normal tee times just a bit. We'll have, on the worst days, a longer wait at the clubhouse for "frost delays" where the staff doesn't allow anyone to trod around and damage the "frozen" turf. This is usually burned off and course opened for play prior to 11:00am.

Winter golf is fun to me. I'll simply don a coat that I'll wear between shots.

Solo golfing forays will find me walking using my new cart.....looking forward to it. Got to work it around my hunting schedule.

Sadly, our Wisconsin winters dont really allow for winter golf. Snow, ice, freezing rain and cold temps cause all the golf courses around here to shut down in November and not open again until April.
If we dont have much snow and we get a thaw for a few days, the do sometimes open though.
I am thinking about giving snow golf a shot this year though, but for the most part during the winter months golf for me consists of indoor minigolf and practicing my putting in my living room. I think thats probably why my putting is so good, because I practice it all winter long.

There are a few courses near me that are open year round...though the pin placements remain the same and the greens are icy fast (literally).

Back in the UK I used to play year round, would require me to wear a big sweater which was a little more constricting than I like. The temperate climate did lend itself well to year round golf in Britain. Obviously, the summers were much better than the winters

I suspect in my present mid-Atlantic location I won't be playing much this winter, I'll give it a go though. Will be down the driving range though.

I've played in temps as low as 15 degrees once (we'd wear a coat and take it off to hit, then put it back on). In a normal winter in Kansas City though, I don't play at all unless it hits like 55 or 60 after a stretch of mid 30s and colder. If it's been in the 40s for a while, 55 or 60 is still too chilly to play 18 but we might hit the range for a bucket. When we get those miraculous 70 degree winter days, the golf courses are pretty crowded!

Winter? What's that? We have only two seasons. Rain and no rain. Raining season starts in October and lasts 'till Februari. Other than that we've got 300+ days of sunshine.

I used to live in the Netherlands which, like the U.K., only has one season: Rain.

This new location is quite an improvement.

I lover winter golf in Texas if it doesn't rain. It's as close as I can imagine to links golf. Super firm conditions, high wind, just were lacking those awesome pot bunkers! I also love the bad conditions that make it extremely hard, and the fact theres only 10 other people on the course, so it's not a 5 hour round.

Plus, I like wearing long pants more than shorts. They're so much more comfortable.

I play years round. 365 I use to live in Indiana, but I could not play year around. So the wife and I pack up and moved to St Johns Florida. We are in between Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Three golf courses right here on highway 210. Everyday at the golf course life does not get better. I really do not know why we did not do this years ago.

I play year round. Obviously less in the winter, but I still make an effort to get out there if the course is in decent condition (no snow, etc...).

Cold weather golf? Nothing a set of thermals, turtleneck, and skull cap can't fix!

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
