Two day stroke play event with the field flighted beforehand based on qualifying rounds played in the last 4 weeks. The greens were double cut on Sat morning and were probably rolling at 11 or so, and the superintendent chose just about the hardest pin positions he could find on each hole (some of which bordered on being just ridiculous). Anyway....I played almost the entire weekend with nothing much working but the driver and the putter. I only hit one drive all weekend that wasn't either in the fairway or just out of it (and that one was a snap hook in the woods that cost me two strokes). Came out of the Saturday round tied for the lead with one other guy. On Sunday we traded the lead back and forth over the first nine and were tied going in to the back. My lone wayward drive came on #10 and put him 2 up on me. I had a couple of chances to make birdies in the next few holes and get a couple back, but just couldn't get anything to drop. 16 does not set up well for him as it requires a short tee shot (5i or so) or a solid fade if you take a longer club (you're in a lake if you go through the fairway). Well, he tried to hit his driver WAY high with his normal draw and ended up OB. Because of that we went to 17 squared up again, and nerves finally got to both of us. He doubled a tough par 3 and I went into 18 1 up. Hit my best drive of the weekend by choking way down on my driver (hole goes 230 up hill and turns 90deg left) and hitting a solid draw. Ended up in the middle 82 yards from the pin. Stuck a sand wedge to 8' or so and two putted (with some very shaky hands!) for the win.

Congrats on the big win. At least 80% of this crazy game is mental, so it looks like your psyche compensated for the last hole shakes.

I wish! Unfortunately we'll most likely have moved by the time they hold it again next year. Or maybe that's not such a bad thing since we both want out of DC pretty badly!

Well done! This year I had a pretty good chance of winning because I was driving 90% of the fairways that month, hiting at least 10 GIRs, but for some reason, this happened to me:

I had just parred the hardest hole on the course (hard tee shot, and a blind shot to the green, that is downhill and downwind, you need to play there to see what I mean cause you got no room for error) to go 1 over to the rest of the round. I thought, well, if you can keep calm, you got a chance at this. I go to the 4th tee, drove it perfectly down the middle of the fairway and then I go and I'm standing 175 yds away from the pin. The greens were soft so I knew I could stick it there pretty close. It was a very windy morning and has I was playing against it I had to use, at least 2 more clubs. I picked up my 4 iron and snap hooked. It went so deep into the woods that I doubt that anyone will ever find that ball ever again... Did the same thing again, and again over the next couple of holes... I did the math, and if it wasn't for those 2/3 holes I'd have won the champioship by 5 strokes, but ended up being defeated by 20 shots. That day I shot +25, with 17 of those strokes being on those 2/3 holes. I've tryed t gain my golf swing back since. I'm almost there again...
