Hi guys,

For about 5-6 years I have played with only a PW and a 56 degree wedge. Two years back I bought a 56* TM Rac Black TP wedge, which I absolutely adore.

This year, I bought a set of Cobra Forged CB irons, second hand from a pro at the golf course I worked at over the summer.

Upon seeing I only had the 56* wedge, he gave me a 52* Cleveland CG10 Black Pearl, which he had only used for 1 season, free.

What I really want is a 54* and 60* wedge set up, but I really don't want to shell out any more money on golf this season or next, being a university student.

I was considering getting my CG10 bent to 54*, and my Rac TP to 58*. Any opinons/experiences on having wedges bent?

Any imput appreciated.

*PS: The TM has 12* of bounce, and the CG10 is 'mid bounce', two dots.

I would think any reputable fitter could bend those for you. Lots of pros use wedges bent a degree or two to suit their liking so I don't think there would be any performance issues.

I believe the Cobra forged irons are a little strong. The PW is 46* so I would think about adding a 60* wedge to go along with the other two or, if you only want to play 3 wedges, keep the gap wedge at 52* and bend the 56* to 58* for a 46-52-58 setup.

If you have a club bent to increase loft, you'll get more bounce.

If the bending decreases the loft, you'll lose some bounce. That may or may not affect your play.

Yup, I was also told that pro's usually bend the wedge loft for it's effect on the bounce, not to increase the loft by 2 or 3 degrees.

Well, I had it done at my local GolfTown for $4 a piece. Pretty reasonable.

My Cleveland is now 54* and the Taylormade is...60*.

The guy who did it for me said the Taylormade was already 58*, even though it very clearly is marked as a 56*! I asked if this was common, and he said yes, quite.

He sees many Taylormade and Callaway wedges/irons which are off by a degree or two of their advertised spec. He also said that Vokey and Cleveland wedges are usually pretty spot-on. Better quality products...? Seems like it...

Anyway, I love the set-up. I really notice a difference in the bunker, gives me a lot of options to hit some nice high floppers that stop, or just run one up there!

the bounce does change but when you bend it 2 degrees its not that significant of a change for amateurs but bending the clubs will be fine as you can tell from my wedges ive had 3 bent, the 54 used to be a 52 vokey so yea go for it

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
