Whats the difference between cord grips and velvet or polymer grips? I have had some slippage on the range and even in tournaments and I wanted to know if paying the extra money is worth getting cord grips.

Just buy one, put it on on club, and play a few rounds with it and see if you like it. Better yet, just hit a bunch of balls at the range with that club. If it doesn't tear through your hands or glove then it might be for you. If you don't like it then you are only out about $10 for the cord grip and one to replace it.

I don't know if they are better or not, personally I don't like them. I tend to grip the club pretty hard sometimes and they will give me a blister or two.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I have cord grips and like them. Yes, they are harder on the hands, but I don't get blisters from them. No slipping happens with them, they are very firm which I like, and they last a long time.

I prefer cord grips over all others. I can't state this strongly enough.

I have no issues with them tearing up hands or gloves. Gloves, imho, are a consumable with a limited life. When they wear after several rounds then I'll make them "range" gloves until holes develop and then they are trashed.

The Tour Velvet Cord and the Crossline Cord are my favorites.

I fully believe they are worth every $$$. For me, they outlast regular grips three times as long. Also, the humid conditions of playing around here make grip selection more of a consideration.

I generally have to special order my sticks due length& lie needs....I've always requested cords at that time, too. Never been charged more for this and always been pleased. Ping's cords are super!!!!!

I simply do NOT like cord grips. THey are brutal on gloves and my hands. Yet, I dont feel they are any more stable than my Winn Grips or even the lamkin wraps I had previously.

chords are brutal if you're not used to them or don't play often like people have said .. I never liked them. I always used golf pride tour wraps .. just last week I finally splurged on some Wynn Grip Polymer Chords (partial chord) .. they're soft yet still tacky .. and aren't brutal on the hands .. I used one glove all day today in 90 degree heat and didn't have one shot slip out of my hand .. it was nice.

I think cord is the way to go... I always find with just tour velvet my grip slips if I'm not wearing a glove. The new decades are the way to go though with only half of the grip being cord.

I still have some clubs with Golf Pride Victory half-cords.

When I pick them up, I just remember pain and the club slipping out of my hands because the grip is way too firm for me. Golf Pride Tour Wraps for me on every club and I now play without a glove. (I have a leather grip on my putter - wouldn't have it any other way)

Besides the roughness on the hands, do cord grips prevent slippage? My hands are really sweaty and I have had clubs slipping out of my hands launching out into the range. I have always had this problem, and just wondered if cord grips will help. Yeah, I don't care about the roughness. For some reason I just don't get blisters. Is cord the way to go to prevent slipping?

It's a trade off.

The cords create friction. However, to keep the cords in, the grips are made out of a very firm rubber compound.

I've tried a few of the cord grips. They were pretty rough on my hands. ( I guess that I'm a wuss). I have found that the Golf Pride Tour Wrap is best for me. They are fairly cheap and are very soft & tacky.

I play Lamkin Crossline Cords. The firmness gives better feedback off my blades. But, in terms of "slippage", the grips doesn't really hold much better to sweaty hands than the Lamkin Crossline non-cord version.

Go demo a club that has a chord grip on it. Hit it a few times and then see if you like the feel of the chord during your swing. Having a chord grip does not = a better grip. A grip that you like and fits you = the best grip.
