Finally, the AP2 irons are used by many golfers on every Tour and have been quite successful. How many players with use Mizuno MP-57, MP-52, or MP-62 irons on any Tour? Yes, I realize that Mizuno does not have nearly the presense on the professional level that Titleist has. The point being that the AP2 irons are awesome irons.....

Players are paid millions to play certain clubs under contract. Mizuno chooses not to focus on this aspect to attract customers. People buy their clubs based on feedback from everywhere - not just what they see on TV. Davis Love recently renewed his Titleist contract for $40 million odd over 10 years. Do you think he'd swap over to Mizuno if he liked the feel of them? Titleist have chosen the endorse, endorse and endorse route and it has worked for them. Doesn't make them better or worse. On a "reputation for quality and feel" basis, Mizuno is at least the equal of Titleist in terms of irons.

Lefty731PM,

I understand that Titleist has more of a presence on Tour. Regardless of how much money they throw at players, if they had a junk product, it would not get used. Many Tour players are using the AP2 irons and they don't have to. There are plenty of other Titleist irons they could use. Regardless, the point of that paragraph you quoted was to point out that the AP2 irons are awesome irons. S-

You also must realize that while negotiating contracts the players can say I will use your company's drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, wedges and putter, but I want to use any irons that I like. So if Davis Love wanted to use Mizuno irons that bad he would negotiate that into his contract.

Yes, but more likely to happen with drivers and putters and wedges. If DLIII for example had said he wanted to play different irons, I think the dollar figure would have been significantly lower.

I think he has a 14 club contract.

I was just taking you post and using it as an example. Like Aaron Baddeley has an Adams contract but only has to use 2 fairway woods, he uses MacGregor irons for sure, and forgot what else he has in the bag. But like I said, he only HAs to use 2 clubs. Many player's contracts are like this. And it is NOT more likely with one type of club or the other, it happens with everything.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

The higher the number of clubs a player must play, the better the remuneration. The manufacturers want TV viewers to see Adam Scott using Titleist drivers and irons. They would pay him a lot less if he said he only wanted to play their wedges.

With companies like Adams, it is more about brand recognition at the moment. That's why Baddely and others aren't yet playing a full set. For the record, I think AP2s are wonderful irons.

I have 57's and love them. That being said my next set of new irons will likely be AP2's. I hit them and really liked them myself.

lol Yoshi,

it's in Auburn Hills right by the Palace .. on I75 about 20 miles north of downtown detroit.

I like the layout .. most everything is right in front of you yet it's still difficult, there's nothing thrown at you that you don't see from the get go.

The AP2's are sweet looking and a great club. I bought the AP1's cause I thought they were better for me, but now I'm kicking myself. The 1's are too bulky.

I just ordered a set of MP57's cause I love how they feel. I was deciding between the new 52's and the 57's, and went with what I originally wanted to buy in the spring. I like the clean back of the 57's, the set up, and the feel. Best iron i've ever hit.

It came down to the MP-57 and AP2's when I was looking for a player's iron to replace my MX-25's. I was all set to buy the MP-57's when I hit the AP2's. The AP2's felt better, had a better ball flight, and were more forgiving.

I have never regretted getting the AP2's.

Dude of course you're gonna do sick with them. They cost you around $750 dollars I bet if not more. You'd be rippin' if you sucked with them. Still congrats on a great round.

I hope that doesn't end up being an expensive mistake for you! I have to say that the AP1s at address to my eye are amongst the bulkiest and ugliest things I've ever seen/ The AP2s on the other hand look great. I think you'll like the Mizunos.

I heard great things about the AP2's so I tried them out at the course where I work. They were okay but the top line looked bulky and the ball flight was way too high for me. So since I had the fitting center open I screwed on the Titleist ZM head and tried it. They felt awesome and ordered them the same day. Titleist makes great irons.

NM Golf... why'd you switch from your MP-32s? Want more forgiveness?

NM Golf... why'd you switch from your MP-32s? Want more forgiveness?

I was looking at switching out the shafts in the Mizunos to the Project X. I got a few shafts and heads out of my course's titleist fitting center and hit the ZM with the Project X shaft. I really liked the ZM head so I just decided to switch completely. As far as more forgiveness, I would go as far as to say the Titleist may actually be less forgiving. They are certainly not more forgiving.
