Many years ago while playing in a mixed scramble, I was trying to read the slope of the green with plumb bobbing. Well, it wasn't working. An older female golfer made a great swinging putt to get right next to the hole. I asked her, " how did you read that" She said " stand over the putt and feel the break through your feet"
It works and I am not sure why.
