This won’t be news to many of you, but some (like me) may not know…

I took a couple of brand new wedges to my local clubmaker to have them bent since I noticed that my shots were landing right of target. I play my clubs 2 degrees up from standard, so this wasn’t a real surprise to me. In addition to finding that both clubs were actually 2 degrees flat, I also found that each one was a degree strong. This kicked off a discussion about having the loft/lie checked on my Pro Combo Forged irons, since I had not had them checked in the five years I’ve been playing them. I brought them back to the shop and ended up discovering that most of my shafts were bent!!! He surmised that I was a divot-taker, which I am. I also used to hit fat quite a bit until I got my swing under control—this effectively de-lofted most of my irons in addition to bending the shafts.

So now…I’m in the hunt for new shafts & looking forward to finally getting below a 10hcp once my arrows are sorted out! If you’ve been playing forged irons or take strong divots & have not had your loft/lie checked in over a year—it might benefit you to do so. –LBB

I was told by Cleveland Golf that not a single club by any manufacturer is guaranteed to have the correct loft and lie right of the shelf. Every club more than likely has a deviation of 1 - 2 degrees.

Having them set every year is probably a good idea.

When I got fit for my i10's the fitter told me that when you travel, the air pressure also changes your lofts, more so on forged irons.

Are you sure? If it's true, wow, I didn't know air pressure could change lofts.

Yes I am sure that is what the guy told me . But I would trust a pro who deals with clubs and fitting every day.

I won't bother getting my irons checked, I know they are way off. They are 30 or 40 years old and I am sure they have never been to a fitter. I don't know if the clubs had an orginal offset, but they do now.
Probably also a reason I have trouble getting the ball in the air.

that guy does up Tiger's clubs...thus why I started the new nike series since he told me he did Tiger's set for the open as well as AK's set.
he's proven...a little pricey. but i'd say definitely worth it.

if you do golf galaxy, golfsmith, etc...they just ship it to someone else anyway..so go straight to the source.

Yeah, I'm really not certain I buy that... his proof was "he told you"?

basically that was it. we had a 30 minute convo when i was talking to him about having my irons chromed, loft and lie checked. it wasn't something he forced on me. about 20 minutes into the conversation i mentioned something and he mentioned back that he had worked on tiger's club..

i tend to believe someone until they prove me otherwise... call it a fault of mine..but i always try to see and agree with the best of people.

I thought Nike had a team (or at least someone in Nike) to do all Tiger's clubs? Hmm...

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
