So my brother and law and I made a early tee time yesterday, hoping to get in nine holes. It rained all day yesterday and we knew it was going to be pretty soggy. Anyway we get to the course we were going to play (the only one that answered the phone yesterday--Salt River in Chesterfield Michigan) and there is no one there, no one in the clubhouse. It wasn't raining so we decided to go out and play and pay at turn or after. Well holes 4-6 were completely flooded by the river. After realizing this we quit keeping scord and started hitting multiple balls at greens and such. After playing the ninth hole, my brother in law asks if I want to keep going and I said of course.

We get to 11, which is a 156-160 par 3. I pulled my six for some reason and nuked the green into the woods behind. I walked back to my bag, pulled another ball and seven iron and re-teed. I hit the ball and in flight my brother in law says thats the right one. The ball hits two feet in front of the pin, hits the pin and falls in. We didn't know whehter to celebrate or not. It is either a great practice round hole in one, or the best damn par I have ever gotten. Ob and Par on a Par 3. Would have been first hole in one.

Only in golf do you get lifted up and brought back down to earth in the same moment.

So the question is how do I mark the ball for the trophy case....I was thinking Hole in Three....Hole in Three/Hole in One....any suggestions?

That's the most bitter-sweet moment that I've ever heard of! Congrats on your, err, par?

Reminds me of a time that a friend and I were demoing a Lynx 7 iron. We dropped a few balls and started hitting them into the green. My friend holed his 3 shot. Awesome shot but didn't really count for anything. He kept the ball. Anyway you look at it, it's a great accomplishment.

Congrats.

Didn't Fred Couples do that at TPC on Sawgrass's 17th? Hit his first shot in the lake, teed up for three of the tee and knocked it in for par.

The last couple of rounds I've played have been alone, and the 18th is a 160yrd par 3. If there is nobody behind me and I have some time I'll hit four or five practice tee shots, last time of the five, four landed on the green, one about a foot away, the other three were all 'birdies'. I did wonder how crappy it would be to knock a practice tee shot in the cup for a non-hole in one. gah!

Yep.

Fred Couples' ace was his second at the TPC Sawgrass. Couples aced the par-3 17th hole in 1997 during the final round. He also dunked his third shot from the tee during the first round of the 1999 tournament after splashing his first shot off the tee into the water.

Well to be technical about this, he went to the drop zone

Nice progression..... lol

BDP. For "Best Damn Par". Congrat's on the hole in 1/3.

That's what I was going to suggest.

Kinda depends on what was behind the hole where your ball landed. If it was thick woods and no red stakes you could claim lost ball and the 3 from the tee would have counted, but if it wasn't marked and the ball may have been found and hit, you should have played it form back there,...
I'd call it a "very nice practice provisional"

My friends all started palying this par 3 course a whole lot, (it had lights) suddenly they all were getting holes in one,... I know it's still a good shot but they played it 3 times a week giving them 54 chances at an ace, I got 2 aces, both on regular courses,... I say they deserve an asteric,...
What do you think,...?

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
