so i bought a new putter a few weeks ago, like the fifth putter i've tried in two years now. all i have to say is "wow". the difference in my putting is like day and night. i've always balked at spending the $$$ on a putter, you know the ones in the $200-$300 range. what the heck was i thinking. every putt i make now is a solid hit, online. my misses are close, but look good all the way to the hole. the 4-5 footers almost all automatic. well seems that way, but compared to before, so much better. it's a Nike Unitized Retro, a one piece putter(no joint between head and hosel) that advertises:

"these putters are engineered to transmit vibrations that resonate with the golfer’s natural sensory systems. This putter’s unitized construction also provides unparalleled feel. The result? Remarkably improved feedback that translates into better distance control. The absence of a shaft-to-head bond provides a clean look at address."

i'm so impressed. here's a picture of it:

not only are the misses close, my lag putting has dramatically improved. i can park so close from 20-30 feet with much more ease, really helping my scores. i'm sold on that unitized construction= better feel business. best part is was on sale for $120, more than half off. to steal a line from "somewhere", i'm lovin' it.

blade putters are nice arent they?

My stroke has improved so much, the feedback is just insane of off the blades.

Congrats on the new stick!

I demoed a nike today, the nike 20-15A mallet

I honestly did not expect much, but I was happily surprised, I have been in the market for an alternate putter, a mallet, for the "soggy" courses close to the ocean w/ the REALLY slow greens and so far this one is at the top of the list. I thought the sights were gimicky at first but I felt they helped me out.

Haha if you want to see slow greens come to Alaska. The other week my swing coach went to Las Vegas and played down there, came back to Alaska and couldn't even get the ball to the hole since the greens were so slow. After just playing in Vegas, he couldn't trust himself to hit a putt hard enough.

I've got that putter in the trunk of my car. I really liked the feel of the putter, but for me the lack of a sight line was throwing me off. Visually, I like to have something to square the ball up to.

It's a good putter though, enjoy.

May I humbly suggest you look at the Rife 2 bar hybrid mallet as well? I've been pretty happy with the one I just bought. Didn't demo the Nike tho..

You sure may! In fact I didn't want to highjack this thread but I am open to any suggestions on a mallet, except the Odyssey 2-ball SRT, the insert just didn't suit me well.

OK, consider it jacked for just a moment.

Happy you found a putter that works for you though.. As mentioned on another thread, putters get hit more than drivers, but for some reason we're all willing to trade out drivers much more often. It's nice to find a good putter.

Please let me know how it goes. The 2 bar hybrid lets you add and remove weight so you can play it on fast or slow greens if you like. The insert is perfect IMHO.

If you were willing to put up with a high hcp player and drive up to Pleasanton for a 7AM sat game sometime I'd even let you try mine.

Hey my dad is a 35 and my handicap has not been updated since my hiatus, it's probably closer to 20, so no worries on that. If I am ever in town I wil let you know. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Well I tried a bunch out, wasn't looking to spend to much since my Scotty will still be my primary putter. I ended up ordering a Cleveland VP3 Milled Mallet, I will post pics and a review in a new thread once I get and use it for a round.

Now, hypothetically speaking, what would you do if the shaft were to break, or am I incorrect on the assumption that these putters are one single piece of metal?

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.
