So I heard that you can get dents in your clubs if you mis hit forged irons? Is that true? Also i heard they get a ton of bag chatter, I walk so i think that might be a problem too. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I just bought my first set of irons about a month ago (Miz mp-52's). I haven't had any problems with bag chatter as they usually chrome and harden irons after the forging process. With mishits however: I was using my putter like a genius as a guideline to square up with the ball and on one of my swings, I ended up hitting the head of the putter with my 5 iron which made a little gash and the bottom of the iron below the first groove. Still usable but you should see the putter. The putter's loft was all banged up and the head was pushed back many degrees, but it was a great excuse to get a new putter. So seeing what happened to my putter and the little damage that was done to my forged iron, I don't really see how forged is softer to the point that it causes problems. (I also try to wipe them down every few shots, esp at the course where dirt and debris will get stuck and create ballmarks)

Dents? Maybe if you hit off asphalt.

Chatter? Of course, they are metal and will eventually mark.

Yeah, there are little dings all over my MP-57s. Some on the sole, occasionally on the mirror finish on the front. But they still hit the ball just fine. Best I can tell, it's just a cosmetic issue.

The chrome itself is "hard" (harder than the iron) but I think you'd discover with a hardness tester that the iron's base metal is not heat-treated/hardened. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the iron goes through an annealing process before chrome; the forging process may undesirably work-harden the steel.

I still like my irons to look good though, are you guys saying a mis hit will dent it, because if I see visual flaws in the clubs, there's no doubt in my mind I'll hate it.

No... have to say i have never had a mishit (when hitting a golf ball) dent it...

Personally I believe that regardless of forged or cast, there will be bag chatter that will scratch or create slight blemishes on the finish of your irons...

I'm fine with bag chatter, most of it gos anyway, my r7s that ive played for like 2 and a half years walking 18 a day look just as good as new, except the finish isn't nearly as shiny.

ALL clubs get bag chatter, soft forged probably the fastest, like Mizuno, (I don't care I still love my Mizzy's). As for denting forged clubs when mis hit, hmm haven't heard that, but again ANY club will dent if hit on something harder than it. Also, ALL clubs will get wear marks where the ball has been struck the most on the club head and it doesn't make any difference in playability

, it just looks worn, becuz it is.
