I have been wondering what everyone thinks their ideal 3-wood is. Mine is either the new Cleveland Launcher or Titleist 904. They are low profile and solid clubs.

i have tried several other 15 degree 3 woods including an r7 TP, burner and 904 F and i have came back to my Taylor Made V steel.

For me, it just performs great out of the rough aswell as from the tee/fairway.

i am old school though, i have DG S300's in my woods.

If you are using it of the tee exclusively, I would say a 13-15* driver. If you are using it off the deck as well, I would say any low profile model with no less than 15* of loft and a 42.5" or less shaft.

Really I think the best 3 wood is a 4 wood. Or in my case, a strong 5 wood.

I don't see myself giving up the 906F2 in my bag anytime soon. Even when my swing is a mess it is by far the most consistent club in my bag. I have a 3 wood, a 15* Hibore XLS, but I don't carry it very often. I think this question varies for everyone of course (heck some people don't even like fairway woods!)...having said that I will be looking into the Cleveland Launcher 4 wood, but it will have to really WOW me to replace the Titleist. Even if it does wow me I may wait it out to try out the 909 fairway woods. With any of these I would stick a a proforce V2 in.

I use a 4 wood and love it. Any slight decrease in distance is more than compensated by the ease of use and improved accuracy.

I'm soon going to carry 2 3 woods. The one I have now I can CRUSH off the tee but I can't hit it to save my life off the ground, so I was thinking about checking out a 904 or the new launcher. I also want it to have a somewhat low ball flight, i like the low penetrating shots with a lot of roll when im in the fairway. When I'm on the tee I like a high draw that lands soft and gets a few yards of roll.

I like my new FT Tour. Of course, I think that it's the shaft that really makes this club.

Mine is what I have. A MacGregor NVG2 12.5* 3w. Easy to hit and long.

I have a Wishon 949 3 wood with a low profile and 14* of loft that I love. However I think the shaft makes a TON of difference in the three wood, as the same head with a different shaft was a stinker for me the first time I tried it.

I'd say the best 3W is the one you can hit.

The one I carry is a low profile model that works really well off the deck. I've never really tried to hit it off the tee. If I did I'd just tee the ball low, like with an iron or my hybrid. Right now though if I need something shorter than my driver off the tee I usually just use my hybrid. I can shape my hybrid shots pretty well, better than with a wood, so even though I lose some distance the added ability to work the ball makes the difference for me right now.

The best 3wood is the one that works for you. Once you find it, never let it go until you wear it down. I was never a fan of the 3wood until i hit the Ping G10 15.5*. This is baby's staying in my bag for a long time.

the TM Burner 15* with the stock shaft really works well for me. I can actually hit it almost as far as my driver (~250), which probably means that I'm not hitting my driver properly!

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
