I had a Skycaddie SG3 for about 3 years. I love it when it is functioning, but have had multiple issues with it. Software, connectivity with satelites, etc. Skycaddie repaired/ replaced it on 2 different occaisions. I have come to the conclusion that it is just not dependable. I do believe that the skycaddie issues are specific to the SG3/4. I sold mine and am looking to replace it. I see that lots of other brands are now on the market that was previously almost exclusive to skycaddie. I still think that skycaddie makes a good product and I am considering either a SG 2.5 or a SG 5. I am also considering either the Golflogix or Sonocaddie units. Does anyone have any comparitive data and or opinions on these products?

I like my GolfLogix-8 unit. Subscription fees are 30 bucks a year for worldwide courses. If they don't have a course, you can request it and it will be there (in my case, less than a week). I have had zero issues with it as of yet, of course I have had it less than two months. But don't foresee anything, let's hope not.

We don't need to go into the accuracy of gps versus laser rangefinders, obviously you already know about that. Let's just say at my skill level, gps is fine for me.
My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;
See-More Putter; Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 Rangefinder;Golflogix GPS.

Got my SG4 in Dec. 2006 and have had several problems. I had to send it back to Sky Golf twice already for repairs. The 2nd time they somehow either lost it or forgot to send it back to me. It took an incredible amount of time on the phone (multiple calls) to get them to ship it back to me. And never got a single apology. I'm thinking about (well, I'm about 99% sure) going a different route in '09 instead of throwing another $49.99 at them for the annual subscription for a product that has proven to me to have more than an acceptable number of problems.

Your situation seems similar to mine, Q.Q. While I didnt have problems with the service from skycaddie, it was all very matter-of-fact and routine, not apologetic at all. Your issues with your SG4 support the theory that these models have known issues. I also think that skycaddie may get worse due to loss of market share with all these new competitors jumping in.

Smallville, thanks also for your reply. I am fine with the accuracy of gps vs. laser. I prefer the gps data (front, back, center, shot marking, hazards, etc.)

I use iGolf . Less expensive, you own the course files once you download them and it works fine everywhere I play.

I use my iPhone with Teedroid, Teeshot, GreenFinder, etc. Works wonderful.

I actually had played with people with skycaddies and it reads about 1 to 3 yrds difference...rarely.

I have a SkyCaddie 2.5 and it has been rock solid. I have heard of lots of problems with the 3 and 4 though. The 2.5 and 5 are basically the same unit except for the screen size and color.....for whatever reason, they are much more reliable than the 3 or 4.

I've had a lot of success with my Sonocaddie. Always gets a signal, courses that they didn't have were mapped fairly quickly (usually within a week but one took a little longer). My buddies are jealous that I can keep score on it too.

It's never locked up on me or had any issues. One criticism is that I can't move a cursor around to determine how far something is from me (like a dog leg).

I went with the sonocaddie xv2. I will provide feedback after I use it. I hope to have it in hand by the weekend.

Ultimately, I just couldn't justify purchasing another skycaddie becuase of the problems with my sg3. In reviewing the other options, I went with the sonocaddie because of feedback, use of AAA batteries, features, and available courses.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
