So I was playing in a tournament Monday and putted about as bad as I could have. Later that night I had a picture in my head of what the ideal putter for me would look like. I go to work the very next day, we got in a shipment of SC putters. "Big deal" I think to myself, "I haven't liked one yet, what's gonna change." Well, everything. Wouldn't you know, the very same vision I had in my head, was right in front of me. It's the SC Squareback. Ooh this thing looks perfect! Plus it doesn't have the lame-o notched hosel.

I don't know - do you really want to change after just one round of bad putting? If it were epidemic, I'd understand, but you're usually a great putter.

That having been said, the putter does look nice.

Its' not so much the one bad round. I've owned two putters in the last 13 years. It was just weird that this thing came to my shop, litterally within 24 hours of the premenition I had of "the ideal putter".

Ben

Can you please have a premenition regarding a lottery ticket and five numbers? I'll gladly split the proceeds. In all seriousness, how heavy is the Cameron? Aesthetically, they are really pleasing but the few that I have tried are really light. Does this have good weight to it?

I guess the timing is pretty good. Let us know how it goes.

This one feels pretty good to me. This is one with the adjustable weight system too. But standard, feels alright. Still haven't bought it yet, probably won't. Have to talk to my Callaway rep, I'm pretty sure my contract says I shouldn't play a Cameron.

This will be my next putter most likely. When our rep brought the sample to show, that was the one that I picked out as being the best of the bunch.

I signed without really ever reading the fine details. I was just stoked to be put on staff. "Free Stuff", was all that was going on in my head. "who cares about details"

Ben, I don't change putters all that often but when I saw this one I knew I had to have it. Mine is the 34" heavy version. I absolutely love it. The feel, setup everyhting fits. I rate this putter 9.5 out of 10. Happy hunting.

Maybe they will get you a good deal on an Odyssey putter?

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
