What's with all the graphics and bling on new clubs? They are especially bad on new irons in general. Some companies are worse than others, but across the board they are all pretty bad. Do the club companies think that we golfers will be more attracted to their products if they look like something a child would reach for because it's shiny and colorful? I understand golf technology has changed. Just give me technology without technicolor. It makes me want to buy a set of blades and go shoot a 108 just to spite them.

Rant over....anyone else?

I agree. Some of the new graphics on clubs(a couple of my favorite brands especially) make them look like the "inexpensive brands". It makes me wonder if the club is as good as the flash.

I agree.
To me it seems as if the club designers want them to look like rocket ships.
Just more money for me to keep in my pocket instead of throwing it at new clubs which aren't going to lower my index anyway.

then i would hope none of you have seen the new oddysey putters.. they are a mix of two ball and space ships.. there ugly..

But i like the ap2's.. i think they look pretty, "advanced" without the look of say, x22, Tour preffereds, S9, etc etc.

I will stick with my mizzys.

I dislike pretty much anything on a golf club that is not significantly functional, so I have been aggravated for quite a while. Sandblasting is kind of nice. Sandblasted faces are also practical. I can go either way with tumble finishes. I generally distain paint jobs apart from grooves or simple head stampings. Interesting groove patterns on the face appeal to me, though. Don't get me started on black melonite and the like. That easily rubs off with use and looks bad afterward. All of the rubbish on the new clubs makes them virtually impossible to restore. In my opinion, the persimmon or laminated woods, blade irons, and blade or heel-toe putters of the 60's and 70's are the closest to perfection in appearance. Though... the polyurethane on the woods would quickly rub off and the chromed carbon steel would eventually rust. Those clubs looked like art, but definitely would not stay that way if they were used!

How nice to read your own thoughts in someone else's writing. I couldn't agree more.

Not wanting to have any idiotic colours on my clubs I am quite happy with my Mizuno MX-25. Generally Mizuno is by far one of the better companies with regards to non-colourful clubs. However, already the successor model of the MX-25, the MX-200 takes a step in a worse direction. There is indeed nothing better than the pure simplicity of a nice blade. The MP-33 come to mind, or some cleveland blades. The MP-32 are nice also, although due to their muscle back slightly (really only slightly) less elegant than the MP-33s. The same goes for the MP-67s. I know I'm being very particular, but I would even go so far as to say that there is no need for the colourful (red) logo on the new Titleist or MacGregor blades, small as it is

I agree...and I think simpler looking equates to simpler to hit (in my minds eye)...I have always been attracted to blades because of their simplicity but never had the courage to play them and kept purchasing what the industry called “player irons” but were not blades…anyway with my new coach and my new (sort of) swing we have made the transition mainly because of set up but I am finally playing a blade (see avatar)…in my eyes best looking clubs on the planet and very simplistic…just my 2 cents…

I liked the Cleveland irons until I caught a glimpse of the back and saw the yellow insert. I ran kicking and screaming to Mizuno blades. I figure if I got to learn to hit clubs better anyway, why not learn to hit a club I like the looks of.

I still like the looks of my Tommy Armour 845s. Even though I'm shopping for new irons I doubt I'll find anything as pleasing to my eye.

I have to agree. I really dislike all of the graphics, but I can understand it. There are so many manufacturers (not to mention models from them), that they have to do something to differentiate themselves and the new models from everyone else. And some of those 'distasteful' graphics work well for TV because you can actually tell what model a professional player is using just by the graphics.

It would be great if you could order your custom fit clubs with an option of no graphics (or at least an option for very simple graphics limited to manufacturer name, model and club designation in monochrome).

Well, we do live in a society of crows, after all... If it shines...

There was an amusing FoodLion commercial that I saw today with cans labeled "Shiny" (polished aluminum) and "Flashy" (with blinking LED letters) that explains this perfectly.

I personally hate the look of most new clubs. It's why I'm playing what I am. And I'm sure it had an effect on me when I was trying demo clubs the other day and loved the Taylor Made smoke MB, the MP67's, and the ZM's. Just wish I could make my shots with them look as good as they look at address...

I never really thought about that first statement. But yeah that makes sense.

And the second statement would be way cool!

When I walk into a golf store now I just have to turn my head when walking through some isles. The looks of some clubs are terrible . The only clubs I can stand to look at are any kind of blade, the ZBs or the mizzy MPs.

The graphics on the taylormades are the worst id say.

I have to thank the ugly graphics on the new clubs, because they forced me to look somewhere else for something that didn't look like one of my kids toys, and I ended up buying my MPs .
