Hi all,

I will tell you a little about my swing and some of the issues i am having with the driver. I have been playing alot of golf and i have every club in my bag going straight except the Driver. I currently have the Nike Sumo2 5300MOI. With this club i mostly hit a little fade to a big slice. On the rare occation i hit it straight its pretty long.

The stock shaft is currently in the club in S flex. My SS is around 100 MPH. I am looking for suggestions on if you think a Shaft change would help keep the ball a little strighter. Any suggestions would help. Also i need to know if this driver has a .335 or .350 tip.

my other thought is getting a Burner because i have those in my 3 wood and 3 and 4 hybrids and i think the 2* closed faces help me keep those clubs straight.

All suggestion greatly appreciated!

The haed is 1 degree closed for most burner models excpt for the burner HT. I think if you are going to stick with the nike you will probably have to get fit for a shaft because there is no shaft that will make everyone hit straight.

Hi all,

I'm a driver slice master myself. I just dropped a R prolaunch red into my sumo2 squared. With the new shaft in the club I have to work hard to slice, but when I get lazy it still happens.

The R flex plays a bit stiffer than the average Regular shaft so it's good for a "tweener" swing like you have. The red is a low launch shaft, so if you have trouble getting the ball up, you could look at the blue. The shafts are supposed to be very similar, with the red being a low launch and the blue being high launch. Last week I had my best round ever with a 90 on a narrow 135 slope course. A lot of that score happened because the driver was keeping me on or close to the fairway. Good luck!

I would say get fitted. I mean this board is great (they gave me tons of great advice on my thread) but when it came down to it I took their suggestions and then went to go see a pro. One shaft make work well for someone with a 100 mph swing speed because they load aggressively, and not well for someone with the same swing speed who doesn't load aggressively. My guess is that you may need a regular shaft. What you could do is take a regular shaft, and cut it down to about 44''. This would make it stiffer, as well as easier to square.

In the bag:
Driver: r7 quad v2 stiff
3-Wood: XLS
Hybrid: X
Irons: CG Golds 3-GWSW: x forged 56/13LW: Vokey sm 60/.08Putter: Callie 35''Ball: pro v1

Thanks for the suggestions. I was planning on going to my local golf galaxy to get a driver fitting but i wanted to go in there with some stuff in mind to try. I mean there are so many different shafts, i was just wondering if people have success with some more then others.

I did read the new golf digest about anthony kims 44.5" driver shaft and i am about the same size hight as him so that got me thinking about giving that a shot with the current shaft to see what its like.

just to clarify, cutting a shaft down generally makes the shaft stiffer? If so i would go with an R like a person mentioned correct?

I went and got fitted for a driver last weekend and according to the machines i somehow lost about 9mph on my swing. I am now down to 91 mph swing speed.
Last time when i got the Sumo2 i was right around 100 on the launch monitor. that was about 1 year ago. I guess i just either have a more controlled swing or since i stopped going to the gym i just lost some strength.

Anyway, i need to drop to Regular flex now. I am not going to make any change until next season since i am done playing golf for this year (nj, way to cold!). I am going to practice on my swing at the range and maybe take a lesson or 2 so i can become a more consistent ball striker with the driver. After that i will go get refitted and find a shaft or a different driver that suits my swing best.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
