I was thinking about giving the huge KJ Choi grip a shot today. THe golf stores around these parts are having huge discounts and I have decide to regrip my putter with a large grip. Heck I might even regrip my wedges while I am at.

I have used a similar Winn grip on my Scotty Cameron and it works fine, helps take the wrist out of the putt.

1) I also changed my grip. What I now do is make sure that I am gripping with the crease of my left hand on the putter grip, this seem to take the wrist out of putting and make the putter feel more one with my arm or an extension of my arm.

2) I also change my grip to a prayer style grip where my hands are opposite each other.

3) I also found that if I keep the putter low to the ground on my take away that I keep the line of my putts more consistently.

4) I also use a slight forward press.

I didn't like the super size grips, but I recently put a Winn oversize (I think it's the mid not the jumbo) grip on my 2 Ball putter. I love it. Now when I put a regular grip putter in my hand, it feels foreign and I don't feel like I have the same sense of control as I do with my newer grip. About the same time, I made a conscious effort to use the grip recommended by Stan Utley in his putting book (more in the left hand than in the fingers). Between the two changes, my putting stats have improved drastically lately.

I also do a slight forward press with my putter. I feel like I have to since the putter does have some loft to it.

I had the pure pendulum jumbo grip once. No big issue with it.
However, I now have the lady size Winn W8 iron grip installed to my putters. The round shape of the grip give good feedback of club face rotation and the smaller diameter makes the wrist break felt more noticable.
I know it is personal with putters and grips. Now I can adjust my grip pressure for different strokes more easily.

My buddy I play with has one of the jumbo Winn grips on his putter. He has improved his distance control but his accuracy isn't great. I personally hate the feel of how big it is.

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
