Hi everyone,

I am in the market for a new/different driver and wanted to solicit everyone's thoughts on their experiences.

I currently have a 10.5 degree Cobra F-speed with a regular flex shaft (sorry, don't know the brand/details other then the flex strength) I hit this club about 240-260 with a very high ball flight. I would like to find something that doesn't fly quite so high and penetrates a little better. I've only had my swing speed read on one of the golf galaxy machines and usually run between 95-100 MPH, capping out at about 104 with my best hits. I play Titleist ProV1's and NXT Tours.

I've hit the Ping G10 driver and liked the results. I've also hit the R5 and R7's. I'd like to go the used route as money is tight since I'm saving for a wedding next March. I'd like to cap the spending at $150.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks,

The new Titleist 909 D3 is supposed to have a more penetrating ball flight. The first thing i would do is look for a shaft with a mid/high kick point, because ultimately the shaft is going to control the ball flight. Another thing i would look at is a lower degree. Maybe a 9.5. Some shafts that produce a lower launch for you are, Aldilla Voodo, Fujikura Speeder 757, and the Diamana Blue.

I would find out what drivers are availble for about $150 and hit them on the launch monitor at your local golf store along with your own driver and see what gives you the best result for your swing.

The 909's aren't $150, and neither the Voodoo nor the Diamana Blue promote a lower launch. They are mid, at best.

$150 limits your choices to used clubs, but even for that amount, it opens up a ton of clubs released in 2007 and some into 2008. Go and hit a bunch if you can. Keep in mind higher kickpoint and heavier weight in your shaft selection will keep the ball down.

For Magnus,

This is straight from,

http://www.titleist.com/golfclubs/sh...ts/default.asp

The Aldila Voodoo VS6 features a specially designed, one piece, carbon-fiber rib system that keeps the shaft more concentric during the swing preventing ovaling for maximum energy transfer and added stability. Produces low-to-mid launch and low spin.

Diamana Blue 73 is a light-weight shaft which offers slightly lower launch and spin than Diamana 63 with excellent feel and stability. For smooth tempo players who want more weight feedback than an ultra-light shaft.

Titleist 905R 7.5* w/ Graphite Design YS-6+

For Magnus,

Websites are fine - I know what they tout their products as - but Ive hit them, and their are many, many other shafts that do the job of lowering bal flight much better. Whiteboard, Prolaunch Red, Aldila NV 75, even the original Grafalloy blue...In my opinion

If you've hit the Voodoo, you can't tell me it's low launch. Yes the Diamana blue 73 will be lower launch than the 63 simply by its weight, but I don't think you'll find anyone that would say they are a low launch shaft. Different strokes for different folks, I guess........ -For the OP - just hit em first, no matter what the website or people like us say.

I say go and get a shaft fitting. The places I've seen will charge $25 or $50, which they will then apply towards a reshaft. If you assume a $70 shaft and $25 for labor you are still less then $100.

im not going to touch upon shafts, but i will suggest a few drivers for you. The TM Burner Draw is only $150 now and I love it to pieces haha. I suggest an R7 or R5(R5 would be nice, cheap and you could get a used wood as well for $150 total). I would also suggest the cleveland launcher and hybore. Try out a used Nike Sasquatch, they are about $125-150 used and are generally pretty good, I produce a low flight then I used the 9.5* demo.

Hi everyone,

I also play a 10.5* driver and can vary my trajectory from low boring to nice and high depending on where I place the ball. For the usual, I tee the ball off of my left heel. For low boring I choke down and tee the ball just a little forward of where I would play my 3i and do more of an "iron swing". This of course takes some practice.

Many people think that their drives are too high, but in reality they are just about right. Now if the ball looks like its heading stright for the clouds, then indeed it is to high. Also its much more the shaft than the head, so you may want to look at a mid to high kicking shaft. These are just my thoughts and not to be taken as gosspel.
