Everyone,

I am quite lucky and have a rather large pro shop credit. Looking at possibly putting the TM Burner XD's into the bag, replacing Cleveland CG golds. (nothing wrong with the golds, but ya gotta spend it on something!). I am looking for thoughts from golfers who have used these for a little bit. What are the good points, bad points, what did you change from, etc. I tried to search the forums, but could not find anything. I am LH so finding a demo is rather difficult - hate to order something that won't work for me. Please keep the ideas strictly to TM. Thanks in advance for all the help, and for anybody in the South - yes it did snow in OH today.

if your actually a 7 handicap, then why are you looking at such beefy irons? thoe are made for bad players. i would look at blades/small cavity irons if i were you. try the mizuno mp line or the titleist line.

Not everyone is looking for feedback from their clubs.

I played a guy whose longest iron was a 7, driver had more loft then my 3 wood, and had a verrrrry hard time with him. its not how you get there. look at rocco..

I doubt they were made for "bad players".

im sorry if my word choice offended you, but for the most part the big cast irons are for forgiveness, which is something that all high handicappers need. i would highly reccomend blades, because feedback is only going to make you a better player. if not, why would 99% of the pga tour pros play them?

Hmm I did not know that 99% of the PGA Tour professionals played blades. Are you sure about this?

I think to be playing blades you'd need to play fairly often. My buddy who used to be almost a scratch player went to cavity back from Nike forged blades because he doesn't have the opportunity to play as often.

Gentlemen - I appreciate the posts, and yes I am a 7. After 30+ years - I have had Mizuno M-60's when I had the handicap down to a 4, but don't play enough anymore or have the desire to play anything but game improvement. Grew up on Eye 2's and then Callaway X-12's, so i know what i am getting myself into. I just want my misses to be as close to my pure shots as possible.

If anyone has specifics on the TM Burner XD please let me know. Thanks!

I've got these and while they are very forgiving, I feel as if they allow me to make poor swings. With these you can almost hit a shank and it still goes pretty straight. I had the chance to hit titleist 695 mb's yesterday on the range and I felt that I was hitting better shots as I was slowing down and making sure of good contact. I reckon out of 15 shots, I hit 13-14 perfectly. So by all means grab these if you want loads of forgiveness but be warned, your ball striking will probably diminish over time. Also, the loft of the clubs are about a club strong i.e 4 iron is really a true 3 iron. I believe there is a review of the xd's on this site. Check that out.

Hybrid: 19° 909 H Voodoo

Putter: Odyssey XG #7

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
