players irons!

hey guys, i need some help. Im in the market for some new irons! which can be a good/bad thing. I cannot wait to get my hands on these new sticks, the only problem is that im not sure what i want at the moment. It seems like there are some many makes/models that my brain is about to explode. What im looking for is a set of blades or small cavity irons. I want players clubs with a small topline and minimal offset. I have been looking at the 62's 33's titleist 670's and 690 mb. I also like the looks of the 695 mb/cb's. I am open to any other suggestions, i will probly get these lightly used off ebay, so older models will also be considered. The most important thing for me is the look of the club, if i like the looks i tend to be more confident.

No hybrids in yr bag? I'm reluctant to recommend Adams (A3 last season; just got the BEAUTIFUL A4 '09 set) - 3 and 4 hybrid 5-pw gorgeous. so many choices tho -good luck - Tomm

If you have no objection to the component route, Tom Wishon makes some outstanding forged, cavity back, player's club type irons. This would be the 550C/555C (the 555 is just a minor sole--tweak to the 550) and the 560MC. All have thin toplines and very small offsets. The 560MC is probably one of the most forgiving forged irons out there.

I play a forged cavity club by Cobra. I am happy with these clubs. They have a great soft feel a good looks. The main difference between it and many regular blades is that it is a touch larger in size for good forgiveness. They are an older model so probably a good deal on ebay if you can find it. The irons that have caught my eye as a possible upgrade are the Nike split cavity forged irons. I have also seen some good deals on the MacGregor Pro-C irons. They have a milled cavity and would perform much like a blade. The Mizuno MP-60 seem like a good possibility as well. Good luck and demo as many clubs as you can!

im looking more towards the titleist or mizuno irons, not hybrid iron sets(sorry if i wasn't clear, but i appreciate your feedback!) I was also loking at the mcgregor mt-pro m irons, but cant find much about them on the web. Anyone use those or have hit them before? what did you think of them/ what were they similar to??

Titliest 695, Mp 52, Bridgestone J33 and J36, and similar clubs are very much like a traditional blade -- they have muscle back elements, but there is a little cavity as well. Sizewise, they are like blades. There are a lot of pros playing this type of club and I think there is a good reason. They are very workable, the feel is great, shot input is very good, and you get a very slight benefit from the cavity design. Just watching this year's Q-school finals, I was amazed at the number of guys playing blade MB/CB combos. I played pure blades for years and the feel and look are still essential to me... but I would not play a pure MB blade today -- these newer designs are just too good, and I don't think there is any stigma or bias attached to this type of club anymore. Just look at the big name guys who are playing them.

I would reccomend the mizzy mp-67, and the titleist zm/zb. As you can see in my sig i have the 67s and love them. The titleists are also good. Go demo some and see what you like. My vote is for the mizzys though. Absolute butter where struck well. Very workable to. Good luck.

have you thought about any other lesser known brands? i have a set of blades that i use from time to time which are the Dunlop RG Designs Players Blades (John Daly used these for awhile) and can be bought brand new for around $150ish. There is also a great set of forged Tad Moore blades that can be bought for around $150 (brand new on ebay). if you are looking to save a little money, but still want a good players blade, you might want to give one of those a shot.

I would consider Titleist AP2s, Mizuno MP-62s, 57s and 67s, Cobra Pro MB and CB, Ping S58s.

Don't know that this is gonna help other than to let you know the direction that I just went.

I just ordered a set of 695 cb's. Should be here next week and I can't wait. I've been playing 962's for the last 10 years and finally went forged. I like the slight cb and stronger lofts as I tend to flight my irons pretty high. The 695's are getting pretty hard to find though, so if you're going to go that direction the time is now.

i was looking at the mp 33's i really like those and the titleist 690 mb, which are almost the same irons. I want a good deal though, so i might wait a little while.

Hey man, i just went through all of this, it is hard lol.

I ended up with MP-32 2-PW with X100SL's for i think 200 shipped. Personally, their great, i think they are a little easier to hit compared to the mp67. But both the 67 and the 32 have really, really great control. Some of the older sets, 14, 33, etc etc can be had for under 200 on ebay, or even at golfshops, (my GS has a set of MP33 for 195 3-pw in great condition)

If you dont want to go the blade route, try out the MP-60. They offer some pretty good forgivness, feel alot better than say, R7 TP, and allow you to work the ball pretty easily.

After hitting mizzys i was pretty stuck with 'em. I tried the RAC TP MB, the ZB, (which i really liked!) nikes new and old blades, everything. But it came down to the fact that i could get the 32's for cheaper, and they worked way to nice..

also, if you are considering the Titleist blades, the 695 cb's are the easiest and most forgiving of the models you are interested in.... great blades

anyone here hit the macgregor mt pro-m's before?? they look very nice and reviews say they are good. Im heading over to golfers warehouse to hit them tomorrow, i want to narrow my selection down.

this is so frustrating...im starting to look at the ap2's and the mp 62's but i change my mind so much that commiting to a cartain model of irons is alot to ask of me. I feel like a club ho' except for the fact that im not an impulse buyer.
