I've been telling everyone the same thing on here and I'm sure people are getting sick of hearing it but go to a club fitter (not a retail store that does fitting against a screen) and hit a variety of things. You might be surprised at what you like and what you hit well and what what works best for you. A real fitter can give you all sorts of stats and help you dial in the best equipment for your swing. We can recommend all sorts of things (I hit the new Nike Victory's and loved them) but you need to get some professional help.

i am going to go to a club fitter in march, but right now i just want everybody's opinions on what their favorite players irons are and why. Don't worry, you dont sound like a broken record, i reccomend many people to do the same.

Anyways, i really like the looks and feel of the ap2's and mp 62, i hit the 62's significantly higher on the simulator which ended up in a loss of distance (both were hit witht he same shaft). I also like the looks of the macgregor mt pro-m, but have not hit it yet. I am still considering going with blades, but i pesonally think all of the current blades on the market look ugly, witht the exception on the zm's.

are you just looking at blades or are you looking at cavity back player irons too?

im looking more towards the titleist or mizuno irons, not hybrid iron sets(sorry if i wasn't clear, but i appreciate your feedback!) I was also loking at the mcgregor mt-pro m irons, but cant find much about them on the web. Anyone use those or have hit them before? what did you think of them/ what were they similar to??

personally, i would recommend the 695CB's and perhaps, the R7 TP's or Tour Burners.

I had the Titleist 695cb's which I really liked (and still have), but was curious about the Titleist ZB Forged for the short iron blades. Liked them when I tried them out so bought a set. I would probably still have them in the bag, but I was in Toronto last month for a business trip and a buddy suggested I get a set to keep up there as Golftown had some demo sets on sale. On a whim, I tried the Titleist 670's as they were the only ones still in plastic. I literally couldn't believe how sweet they felt. I kept switching to other clubs to compare but kept coming back to them. Needless to say I bought a set, and liked them so much when I played them that day at Islington that I actually brought them home and they are now in my bag. They are awesome clubs, and if you are a good ball striker you will love them. The head is smaller than pretty much anything out there, but they are beautiful clubs and worth every penny. I can't imagine that anything will replace them. If the headsize is worrisome to you, then try the 690's or 680's, which are slightly larger with a nicer thinner topline. The 670's are better for people who hit a high ball as they help keep it down a bit more than the 680's or 690's.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
