I am considering going to a left hand low putting grip. Thoughts or experiences with changing putting grip.

Posted
I have been using the left hand low or reverse grip for about 2 years now and it help me square my shoulder to the target. I also make sure that the putter grip lays on the crease of my palm and not closer to my fingers to make my grip feel solid and more one piece this help take the wrist out of the putt.

I recently played and had only 24 putts for 18 holes including 12 one putts and 6 two putts. 11 putts on the front nine and 13 putts on the back nine.

the video below might be helpful with your putting stance and grip

well, I read something on golf.com about the putting grip where you try to hold the putter more on the sides, thumbs not so lined up like your other clubs where you need to rotate your hands. It makes a lot of sense especially when you see all these putting training aids where it separates your hands to the side to promote you to hold that triangle made by your forearms and take the wrists out in two ways, rotationally and linearly.

what I like about it is that I got to keep my grip close to what it was so it was quick to take up and see results.

any grip change feels weird as first. sometimes a change is needed if your standard grip isnt working. i sometimes switch from my standard grip to the reverse grip or the claw if im not putting well. i find great success when i change, and even better success when i go back to standard after making the change. its a real confidence booster.

I've used a reversed grip when putting for... years and I don't think I'll ever go back to a normal grip. For me a reverse grip helps restrict any excess shoulder turn or wristiness creating a flatter stroke. It also helps me eliminate a forward press in my initial setup, which helps me keep my eyes over the ball without feeling like I'm striking down on a putt.

The key is to find something that feels comfortable and to stick with it, IMO. Good luck!

    • Day 33 (20 Feb 26) - played the Friday men’s group shootout.  Solid day of working from some tough shot results - made for a good number of up and downs for par (8 of the 9 pars were such). Cart mate and I discussed the visual aspect of the game - and how much it plays into the individual’s mindset during the round.  Love when the discussion is focused on learning and taking positives away and not just how bad the miss may be.
    • Day 507 - 2026-02-20 Got some backswing work in on GEARS Hybrid.
    • Still kinda working on the backswing stuff. I can turn < 45°, but I tend to tilt toward the target a little. I can tilt away from the target, but I tend to turn a bit more. Case in point. I can do it, though: This I can do all day (it's more lateral than I want, but it's very linear): Here's what 38° of turn looks like. Almost freaking nothing.
    • Good progress. I am finally feeling like I am settling my weight into my right foot earlier in the backswing. Right hip sinks back, right leg feels staying flexed. Feeling very stable and firm in the right leg. I feel like I could do a good squat with that right leg. Very balanced.
    • oops, forgot Pebble Beach and Spyglass.  And two more of the original Open rota, Prestwick and Musselburgh (with hickory shafted rentals).  And Muirfield.  And maybe a few more, I'll check my list when I get home.
