My playing partner and I were very impressed with the gadget the course marshall was using today.

He was a friendly fella who we were speaking to as we made our way up to the green to putt out.

He followed us and had the thing in his hand that I thought at first glance was a hole cutter. It was a bit smaller, though.

It had a trigger on it...like the handy grab arms you can use to pick things up without bending over.

He pushed the base of it on the green over ball mark/divots and pressed the handle and presto....instant mark/divot repair.

He said that he rides the course and uses it between groups when he has time.

I'd like to have one in my bag to do the same when time permits.

Imagine if several players on the course at any time were using these....the greens could really roll so much better.

Please report it here if you have it! I, for one, would be happy to carry it around in my bag and use it!

It would be cool if people just repaired their own ballmark with the practically free tool they already have. Then no need for gadgets and no effed up greens.

*sigh*

If only....I cannot understand why people don;t repair their own divots...when I get to a green, I always repiar mine and any I see left behind....

Our course used to have one of them on each of the par 3 holes to help "encourage" players to fix their ball marks. Unfortunately it didn't seem to inspire such behavior.... then 3 of the 4 were stolen. A new one was purchased and both are carried by the greens maintenance crew. Part of their job during the morning mowing and hole cutting is to use the repair tool to get the worst of the pitch marks as they work on each green.

Yup, that loks like the one I was talking about.....I didn't realize they were that cheap! The way the groundskeeper was talking, I thougt they were much more expensive!

That isn't what they guys use on our course. Ours isn't just a thing that you poke in the ground like that, it actually has a pressure activated mechanism that sort of folds the fingers in towards each other after you poke it in right on top of the pitch mark. A little more pressure after the base is flush with the ground brings the tips of the fingers together.

THIS is what our guys use.

Nope...not it, however I like the looks of it. It would be neat to keep in your pocket....pull it out and place on the grip end of a club and then work around the greens while you are waiting for the group ahead....simple easy to carry...etc.

Yup...I know what you mean and I completely agree. Some folks aren't bending down if they can possibly help it.....bad back, knees, shoulders, arthritic or just to hurried or lazy to do so. At least this would better enable those with physical difficulties to help the greens....doing so painfree.
