But to pretend that he was never famous for falling apart in the Majors is pure FIGJAM-Love.

Even Lanny Wadkins stated (around the 14th-15th hole at the Masters) something like "This is the point where we'd be waiting for the old Phil Mickelson to make a mental mistake." I can't remember the exact wording...but the context is there.

Ok, how about from 1993-2003, finishing in the Top Ten of 17 Majors with zero wins. Five times he finished 3rd, and three 2nd place finishes. Was in position to take it all more than that, only to be betrayed by poor decisions and a balky putter.

Ah Phil Bashing time I guess. What do I call his play in the majors from 1994 (the first year he played in more than 2 of them) to 2000. Well I call it more than six years ago and not great. What do I call his play in major from 2001 to the present? One word, exceptional. Except for Tiger Woods' even more exceptional and overshadowing Major Championship feats nobody has come close to Phil. I hardly can see how 0 missed cuts, 13 top 10's and 3 wins in the last 21 Major Championships can be viewed by anyone as the work of a choker. To say so is pure Phil-hatred or Jeolousy.

Lanny Wadkins?? Your quoting Lanny Wadkins?? Why don't you go get a quote from Johnny Miller as well so you will have a set of garrulous boobs from which you can cite ridiculous commentary. Lanny Wadkins only has to look as far as the mirror if he chooses to pick out a choker. In a time of much deeper competition Phil Mickelson has dwarfed the playing accomplishments of your Mr. Wadkins.

Yeah, I'm so jealous of Figgy. He's snatched so many tournaments from my 9-handicapper grasp. Every local club Turkey Shoot I enter, he's there, wearing his green jacket and pager, bumping beats out of his Ford Explorer. I reek of envy, because what he has is so attainable for hacks like me.

Dude, I'm just saying that at one time, Phil had a reputation as a choker. He has now squashed that perception. No one is calling him one now. Settle down. I mean, are ya'll cousins or something? Sorry you're taking a bunch of chops talking smack about the second best golfer in the world so personally. Figgy lover. PS To say Lanny Wadkins played in a period of lesser competition shows complete ignorance on your part.

Dude, you just did. And stop calling me dude.

What, um this is a forum, I take nothing personal, I just disagree with your opinion.

Figgy lover.

What!? Name calling!? And you could at least come up with a better name.

Ignorant? Listen you dolt the topic of whether the competition is tougher now or then continues to rage on. Both sides have great arguments and facts to back up their opinions. I personally believe the athletes are much better now but am intelligent enough to realize the other side has its points as well. But to think that from 1981-1991 was as tough as it is right now well shows your dim witted and short sighted.

And now, back to the topic at hand: Phil and Fred Couples. Nothing more to say? Didn't think so.

    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
