I was debating about whether or not I should keep my 58* since I just got the 56*. I thought the 58* was too dinged up, but I just sanded away 90% of the dings so it's great now. But I was trying to get peoples opinion on whether or not I should keep both.

Also, I'm seen some people say they have wedges that are, for example 55* bent to 54. Where can I go to get my club bent, because I'd probably bend my 56* to either 55 or 54.

You can go to a PGA pro or probably a golfsmith to get the loft bent. But you have to consider the bounce on your wedges too before you get them bent. It will alter the playabillity of the club Say your 56 has 14 bounce on it and you get it bent to 54 then youre not doing yourself much good. If it has 10 or 8 degree bounce you can you can probably get it bent strong without much trouble.

I carry both a 56° and a 58°, but I only use the 56° for sand. I just happen to really like my CG 11 from bunkers, but the bounce limits its usefulness for anything else.

My 52° and 58° Callaway X Tour forged are my general purpose wedges.

Alright, so my 56* has 14 degree bounce, and my 58* has 11. So what would you consider. BTW thanks for the insight.

I assume if you want to bend it stronger then youre probably looking for more distance from the club. The more bounce it has the more difficult it will be to use from clean lies and get that extra distance you might want.

If youre looking for a 54 to be kind of a attack wedge (as i use my 54) then you probably dont want the bounce so it might be a good idea just to get a new or used one with proper 54 bounce.

Well what if I keep the 56 for sand shots or rough lies, and the use my 58 off the fairway, and maybe get a cheap used 50-52?

FWIW, I'd prob pick up a 52* and keep the 56* as is to give you a 4* spread between all your wedges.

Everyone's different, but there's nothing that I can do with a 58* wedge that I can't do with a 56*......

Is the sand where you play fluffy or thin? If the latter, then you could probably take your 56/14 to 55/13 or 54/12. FWIW, I have a 55/11 SW (54/10 bent to 55/11), but I play where the sand is very thin.

If the sand is fluffy, then more bounce is helpful out of the sand, but playing a SW with that much bounce from the fairway is tough if the course is dry/tight.

As far as the 58 goes, you may find it helpful around the green and for lies that are too tight for a 55/13.

If you get your 56* bent 2 degrees strong to a 54*, then you would have 12* of bounce. That's pretty good IMO. I play with 10* bounce wedges and have played with a 14* bounce. It's not much of an issue.

It would probably be a lot easier to buy a 54 or 52. Depending on your PW's loft, one of those (or a 53*) would fit directly between your PW and 58*.

The sand is usually not too fluffy, yet not too thin so I'll probably bend it to 55, and maybe get a 50*.

Generally the 56 has a lot of bounce, I would not suggest bending it. If you need a 54, get one with the bounce that would best suit your course playing conditions.

well, i would pick up a 52, and still keep the 58. You can open the 58* wedge up alot easier than the 56, so i would keep it. The 58 is also great for chipping.

    • My handicap has dropped from 16 start of last year to 9.9-10.0 this year. I had monthly coaching last year - which did help a ton but I always had the feeling deep down they were just applying band aids and temporary fixes to keep me going. My handicap has probably dropped through a combination of those plasters and playing more over the last year rather than any sustainable improvement. Which kind of annoys me that I have somewhat wasted that money but at the same time - I did reach my goal. The more the year went on the more I realised that we weren't really addressing the key issues (which I think I have a good grasp on) - just throwing different feels and different positions around until something that worked temporarily for a month and rinse and repeat. There was even one session where I actively chased another feel just to tick me over an upcoming golf trip - the feel didn't work. I'm no longer getting coaching as it became unaffordable this year due to a severe price hike but truthfully I wasn't really fancying another year of band aids. I've probably exhausted most of the coaches in my area at this point over the last 5 years but it seems to me nobody wants to, or has been able to address the root problems. My main goal was always to get the handicap down to 9/10 range as I knew I was capable and hey I did it. I started this year off pretty hot scoring wise including a personal best round where my timing must have been impeccable as my ball striking was unreal that day. I am now trending in the wrong direction again because my ball striking is genuinely atrocious - it varies from heel to toe, from bottom groove to top groove.  I can manipulate shape by setting up super closed or super open but ask me to hit a straight golf ball it's never going to happen.  As I say, currently a bit of a crossroads with golf and I find myself asking where do I want to go with golf from here - do I want to continue to float around in the low 10's handicap just searching for feels that work for a month or so then begin to fall apart again? Or do I want to seriously explore addressing the root problems with my golf swing and ball striking to take me to that next level? My biggest issue is my ball striking. It's terrible, not to be harsh on myself as I can obviously move the ball around a golf course but until my ball striking seriously improves my scores are never going to drop. And I don't want band aids or temporary fixes - I want to know what is causing the poor ball striking, what is the root cause and what is just a symptom, is it fixable and if so what is that going to take in terms of effort, grind, money etc, am I even physically capable of making a proper golf swing and so on. Many questions which I will hopefully get the answers to. The more I had coaching last year the more I've had lessons over the years I've always had this lingering thought deep down that I don't turn/pivot properly in the backswing and that might be the root cause - but maybe I'm wrong of course.
