Swingspeed comes from the coil and the wrists releasing through at the right millisecond. All of that comes from creating and maintaining the correct angles while turning back and through which takes flexibility and some strength.

I am working on a perfect setup and then turning back maintaining my hands in front of my chest so my body turns my arms back and then maintaining the left arm on the chest on the downswing so I am holding the hit and releasing the right arm through the ball. If the arms come off the body in the downswing too soon, the right arm "hits" early and the left arm folds early resulting in a weak, slow, up lofted clubface at the ball. Even a split millisecond early hit will rob you of serious SS. As long as the arms stay on the body, the body is swinging the club and if the hit is timed correctly, the body will continue to swing the club through. If the arms leave the body early, they decelerate and the clubhead goes pass the arms at impact with a cupped left wrist. To increase SS, hold the hit.

Coil and wrist is definately the answer here. I've managed to work myself into a stronger coil and better separation of the shoulders and hips. When I get it right I can hit a 4i 220 yards. I've also noticed that if I manage to release at the right timet, the ball is given an even higher speed and will really penetrate the air. Only problem is I don't manage to combine these two. I'm getting pretty consistent on the coil and hips, but haven't worked enough on the release. It's very hard to get it right, I'm usually hooking the ball when I do this. My irons have great distances, but I can't get my drives over 250 yards. Wrist release probably has something to do with it. It's easier to get a proper late release with the driver than the irons from my experience, but with the clubface barely open or shut, the ball will not find the fairway.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
