It's good to see that your lessons are working well. I'm actually in the process of scheduling a lesson from my pro as we speak. Kind of funny how he can strike the ball right-handed better than I can. He's left-handed.

Shot 113 Friday after carding 137 only 2-1/2 months before - 24 stroke improvement from one round to the next! Lessons & range time payed off big time for my long game.

The good -- driving and fairway play was super improved. Didn't hit a push/slice (my typical miss) all day! Doctor, I'm cured. Made some really great contact, much higher % of the time. Hit the general direction I was aiming every time.

Areas noted for improvement (I know, everything, right?):
Still skittish at the 170-220 approach yardages - did a lot of laying up. Didn't pull an iron longer than a 5-iron, and avoided all fairway woods -- just didn't trust myself with those clubs yet.

Lost combined 8 strokes to two bunkers - ouch.

3 putted a couple of times, and 4 putted at least once - ouch.

With the driver & irons, had one fairway iron flub, and took two mulligans. My basic error was a slightly thin shot, which left me ok usually. The course was forgiving in this way (not a ton of force carries).

Flubbed a few under-80 yard pitches - ouch.

All in all, though, I'm ecstatic with my performance, and so was my playing partner who knows my previous game all too well.

After this round, breaking 100 seems easily within reach; breaking 90 is a realistic stretch goal.

yeah, baby.

Awesome! Your progress in inspiring for those of us in a similar skill set to yours. It sounds like you are getting the basics down, so now you need to work on your short game. Congrats!

Thanks, DK.

The best part was seeing my newly learned & ingrained swing technique actually work on the course. So many times in the past I've 'tried something new' and on the links it wouldn't work and I'd end up reverting to the same old bad habits. I've finally jumped that track, crossed that bridge, and put myself on a new, correct path toward consistent, real improvement.

It's amazing how much more energized & fun it made the game, too, to actually be able to hit respectable shots. I've always enjoyed playing, but would end up exhausted after a round. After this most recent round, though, I could've played 18 more. I wanted to play more. I'll be at the range today for sure, & playing another round sooner rather than later!

    • I like Justin Rose and I wouldn’t mind seeing him win another major, I just didn’t want him to win this one 😃
    • I think Rose might have the most zeroed out putting stroke of anyone out there, although as golfing superpowers go that would be one of the most useless.
    • That pre-swing routine tho.. 🤓
    • He's been a top 100 golfer for almost his entire career, yeah. That's not easy to do, especially as you get into your 40s. And, all without any real "superpowers." He's not incredibly great at any one thing. He's very well rounded.
    • Always been a fan of Rose. He seems like a decent human being first of all. When there's some chatter at the tee he says "Quiet guys, please. Thank you" in a friendly tone. He's always given the impression of being a stand-up guy, supportive of his colleagues and competitors. A friendly face. His performance as a golfer is more about consistency through his entire career than the large number of wins. He's always around, but had the potential to win more. This Masters they made a point out of him having almost twice as many lead/co-lead rounds without a win than the next guy on the list. 11 wins on the PGA Tour, 11 on the European Tour and the single major, but a lot of top ten finishes. Erik's comparison to Adam Scott is on point, as the stats demonstrates in the images below. Starting their careers during the reign of Tiger didn't make things easier, but there are few players with more than 15 wins on the PGAT the last ~30 years. I only counted eight from this list. I'd love to see him win at Augusta. Rory is one of very few players I'd pick over Rose.
