Hey, sorry to break it to you guys but... I'm fourteen. I'm a 6 handicap. Yesterday, I played my first round since october. I shot 81 (+9) from 6500 yards on a course in FL. I hit 11-14 fairways, 12-18 greens. On a 480 par 5 I hit driver 6 iron into the green to twelve feet and lipped out the eagle. I'm not trying to be rude, but don't give your "allstar" sons more credit than they deserve.

I can't remember the last time I have seen someone post stats with such a large discrepancy. There is a HUGE difference between hitting 11 fairways and hitting 14. There is even a larger difference between hitting 12 greens and 18 greens. I am going to call BS on your stats because if you know that you hit 11 fairways then you would know if you have hit between 11-14 fairways. And I know for myself if I was even close to hitting all 18 greens I would know for sure. If you are going to try and rain on someone else's parade, you should think about posting something a little more believable.

Sorry to be rude, but I don't respect individuals who come on here and post ridiculous comments in threads when they don't take the time to read through it and fully understand what it's really about.

Even though I fully agree with you Quinn, I think you misunderstood his post. I think he meant 11 out of 14 fairways and 12 out of 18 greens.

LOL...That makes sense.

I must have had my tunnel vision glasses on. Either way, try and read the thread before posting...even if you read the posts the wrong way.

Thanks for your feedback. Monday he started a preshot routine that he uses for all his shots and also for all his putts and it seems to help his focus. He said that he was losing focus on the back nine, I hope to play another 18 holes this Friday and see what he end up shooting. He will play 9 holes at another golf course with his golf team.

Are you playing high school golf? Thanks in advance for your reply. ks8829

I'm an 8th grader (Old for my grade), but I plan to in High School. I've got a few friends that also plan to but I can really only see me and one other ever making it on Varsity. The nice thing although is my History teacher is a Master Teaching Pro and I happen to be a favorite student. Sadly theres no "Discount" for lessons with him, but he used to be the High School coach and won state 6 times. I wish your son the best of luck and I also have created a preshot putting routine, just need to get a driving and iron routine down.

My son shoot 43 for 9 holes on a par 34 and placed fourth on his team with the others shooting 41. His other scores have been 41 - 43 for a par 36. He's the 3 guy on the JV team.

The coach has mentioned when some more practice he should be on the Varsity team next year. The season is almost over with only one more match next Wednesday.

I told him that he will be playing better golf course and have better players to play against. This will help him improve his golf game overall and good to experience that. He said that he wants to stay in the JV team because he likes the coach.

I will be patience and let thing work out for next year. In the meantime I want to get him out to play golf after school during the off season.

A local course is offering a special $40 for me and $15 for junior free golf after 3:30pm for a month with 10% above cost for anything at the pro shop. So if I plan this right I can make sure he has his homework and studies for test done and we could play from 3:30 almost everyday depending on his studies and my work schedule.

im 15 and i play on my high school team. there is only one team no jv or varsity just one big happy family. lol. but ive been on the team since 7th grade and i really sucked then. but yea with a lot of practice and hard work your sone could be a great player for his team. im a sophmore and im the number one player on my team and i shoot around par. like we shot our best in a few years a 152 with me at 35, the others shot 36, 40, and 41. it was a relativey easy course but it is a real p.o.s. lol but it was a fun ride home with my other members and my buddy tryin to call our former number one who graduated last year to brag.. haha
p.s. we never got ahold of the former number one. lol

I am 15 and play high school golf as well. My advice would be to just let him have fun, I know I play best when I stop worrying about how i'm playing and I just try to have fun. I was 11 over through 6 holes yesterday and I thought I had no way of qualifying for our match Monday, and what do you know I finished birdie, bogey, birdie, and I qualified by one shot. Your son has all the time in the world and once you think about that when you play, you do so much better. I love playing golf because all we do is play 9 holes with our buddies and leave. Some of my best scores have been when we're making each other laugh in our back swings.

Awesome man. I'm 31 and my dad is still my favorite playing/practice partner. Wish he lived closer

I'll give you the son point of view from the father/son golf relationship. My dad was a great golfer and his club workspace was littered with tournament trophies. My mom and I would go out to play with him and get lessons, along with the occassional berating.

He eventually got a part time job at a driving range, where I could hit as many balls as I wanted by doing all the washing. That's when the intensity kicked up and he was video taping me, pushing me hard etc. The game was no longer fun for me and I didn't feel I could live up to his expectations.

He died from diabetes complications just before my 17th birthday and I never touched a club again after that. I was on my way to being good, and had the game been fun instead of work, I would have been as good as him eventually.

Now that I'm his age, I've decided to take it back up again. It's fun for me, although a little lonely. I wish it had been fun back then or that our high schools had golf teams so that I had others to play with, but hindsight is always 20/20.

There is a fine line between an Earl Woods and pushing your son to hate the game, be careful. I think it's good you got him on a team with his friends, maybe he'll grow to enjoy it on his own and strive to please himself instead of others.

I agree. My Dad wants me to improve obviously, he pays for my equipment, greens fees, pretty much everything golf related...but he also understands that Golf is an up and down sport. If I don't shoot a good score in a tournament and have a bad day, he doesn't yell or scream or get mad, he just said "oh well, it happens to us all." I think this helps me a lot. He doesn't put a lot of pressure on me...and that helps me I think.

Cool, thanks for sharing.

I had to shoot 79 to even MAKE the team. We had a developmental team that got together for informal practice, but the team itself was insanely competitive. My scoring average my sophmore year was 78 and I played #3 on the team and didn't even get invited to a few of the invitational tournaments. I shot 77 (+5) my senior year at regionals on a ~7000 yard course and didn't make state.

I hear it's quite a bit more competitive now than it was then, 15 years ago.

I only mention this because I'm a bit surprised to hear of the "walk-on" team format. I knew there were a few schools that did that 15 years ago, but I'd assumed they had mostly gotten more competitive as golf gained noteriety in the "Tiger Era".

I know my loca public school has a hyper competitive golf program where 30-50 kids often show to try out up for 6 Varsity and 8 JV spots.

I am just happy to play golf with my son, I will not talk to him about his swing during the round. I keep his score with the following:

fairway hit
geens hit
putts
up and downs

and just let him play. his golf coach from high school just e-mailed and he will have a round at Harding Park next Monday with a few of his teammates.

Try to get out next wednesday if possible with my son and his a teammate
