I am getting a 52* and a 58* wedge. These space my 46* pw nicely i just dont know how much bounce would make sense. I think I may get both with 8* of bounce to have options but I wouldnt have a high bounce wedge for the sand. Is this an ok setup? Also, would a spin milled 52* wedge give me too much spin on full shots? THANKS!

I have a 54*/12* sand wedge and find it highly versatile. Its fine in shallow or fluffy bunkers, hard or soft turf. I would recommend 12* but its down to personal choice, technique and course conditions at the end of the day.

The higher bounce on the 58* would make sense, I just dont know if it would still work for full shots or chips around the green...

I carry a 54/12 which I use as my sandwedge because I like a stronger wedge for sand play and a 58/10, which is enough bounce for sand or soft turf condtions but not so much that I cant' hit a flop. The amount of bounce you need also depends on your swing and how steep or shallow it is. If it's steep you might need more than 8 for sand and soft condtions. If it's shallow then 8 might be fine. Normal for a sandwedge is 12-14.

As for the question about 'too much spin' from Vokey Spin Milled, that answer can only really come from you. Most players do not truly create a lot of spin with wedges anyway. If you normally generate quite a bit of spin with other wedges and are getting shots to back up several feet with a full swing, then a vokey might very well spin more. But remember, most pros are using Vokey wedges for at least PW and up and I would imagine they generate a lot more spin than you (of course I'm just guessing about you).

You are the only one who can be the judge of whether or not the SM52 will cause too much spin. They'll eat balls, that's for sure. I personally would just go with the 200 series. I use my GW fairly often and hit a high ball, so I don't need the spin. You might...only you know.

For the 58*, anywhere from 10-12* of bounce should do the trick. Think of how often you will use it from the fairway to determine 10 or 12. Many players have a tendency to skull full shots from the fairway with higher bounce wedges.
If your fairways are tight, try the 10*. If not, the 12* may be the way to go. If you can effectively use the bounce of the club, I would go with the higher bounce...that's just my opinion anyway.

Yea sounds good, I think I will go with a higher bounce with the 58* maybe around 12* to give myself more option. Anyways, ill probably go with 200 series gap becuase i hit a high ball as well and probably will just go through more balls with the spin milled. Thanks to everyone

I have been looking at Scratch wedges for a while but the price tag is too steep. But, the company offers a differing view on bounce. They focus on three different swing types, those who rarely take divots, those who take trenches, and those in between. They recommend low bounce for those who rarely take divots (sweeper/slider) and high bounce for the big divot-takers. Because I play in varying conditions, I think it makes a lot of sense to fit your wedge bounce to your swing, not to the conditions you play in.

I play at a links style course which have got firmer bunkers and have been using a 56 with 10degrees of bounce until now with no issues.

However the club is in the middle of renovating the bunkers, to make them drain better and give consistent sand depth. We have 3 nines, one of them has had the new bunkers fitted and the sand depth is more, and the sand is much finer than with the older bunkers. I have noticed that the 10 degrees of bounce isn't enough for the new bunkers, so have purchased a sw with 14 degrees of bounce. I certainly notice that its much easier to get through deeper sand with more bounce.

Depends on conditions you play. Firm- lower bounce, plush- go a little higher. 12-14 on the SW and 7-10 on your gap. 10 in the GW is high end.

Vary it.. I have my lob wedge with 6 degrees of bounce, and a SW with 10, this gives me options from every lie.. And since i really dont take divots, the low bounce helps me get to the ball rather than bouncing from the turf.

It would be dumb to carry two wedges with nearly identical bounces.. Its no different than carrying a 58 and 60 degree wedge.. they will do the same thing, so make sure you have probobly 4 degrees of bounce between your wedges.

I do the same thing my 53* has a bounce of 6* my 56* has 12* and my 60* has 4*. When I make a pitch shot I have a low sweeping swing so on tight lies I have a tendency to scull the ball if I am using a wedge with a lot of bounce. Conversely when I have a very soft muddy lie I tend to hit the ball fat when I use a club with low bounce. If I was buying new wedges I would start by buying one of whatever brand I liked best with a standard bounce of 10-12* and se how I hit this club in various situations(full shots, pitches, and chips) and different lies(fairway, heavy rough, muddy ground, hardpan, and sand) and see what my tendency was. If I sculled the ball a lot in certain situations then I would then get another wedge with lower bounce and if I hit shots fat I would get another wedge with higher bounce.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
