For one thing, that you probably don't want a MacBook Air... That's an awfully special-purpose machine. You'll have to be more specific about your needs before anyone can recommend hardware.

Any Mac will run either the Mac version of Office or, if you want to install Windows (either with Boot Camp or the other tools like VMWare or Parallels), you can run those apps in Windows. Microsoft has a free Remote Desktop app for the Mac, too, so you could ditch Windows entirely. I'd go that route. Buy the Office Student/Teacher edition. It's relatively cheap.

use mainly for on the road, or in the golf cart (seriously), for PP presentations, spreadsheets, quotes, faxes, emails, etc. usually make everything outside the remote desktop and then transfer all to remote and work within my intranet. been looking at those Atom computers and the like, but I don't think they'll run fast enough to satisfy those trips when I watch movies, stream music tv, etc. someone suggested looking at a MacBook so I have been briefly, and am really interested in the size, weight, of the MacBook Air.

main purpose would be for work though. mobile connectivity is priority one. I don't mind ditching windows, just need a basis to start from in the Apple world.

For the price and lack of ports I would suggest you go with a new MacBook unibody to get your foot into the Apple world. It provides everything the Air does and a lot more - namely a faster harddrive (unless you spend a lot extra for the SSD) and more ports. A rather large difference is the ability to have 4GB of RAM in the MacBook versus the Air.

Unless you need something ultra-thin for the sake of ultra-thin it is a better way to go.

I personally have owned a PowerBook G4 12" for over 5 years and recently acquired a MacBook Pro 15" unibody with 4GB of RAM. Unless you need the extra graphics horsepower found in the MBP, the MacBook is, again, the absolute way to go.
